How much has Ritz trained for a 5K in the last 3-4 years? (Never.) Teg, on the other hand, trains specifically for it all year long. Ritz is just that bad@ss. His 10K is what will blow people away next year.

When they have gone head to head in the last 3-4 years, he has not once been able to get away from Teg and that trend will continue. He will have to move above the 10k to get away from Teg.

They are both sub 13 and have reached a new level in distance running. They have closed the gap and are know in the elite athlete group
I would be very interested to know their training schedule
In my opinion his usual kick was not there because he is running to his limit.
In my opinion the 5km is both those runners best distance, but there is good money in marathon running. Maybe 10km with Ritz, mind you London is the one major champs where the marathon might not be 30+ degrees c
Take out Bekele and they are within range of the other EA's. The difference is they have 20 runners who could do those times (given the race opportunity, but the US has 2 or 3 and that is a hell of a lot better than zero
In the WC's even though he died a little, that Rupp guy impressed me as he looks easy going with a fast early pace. Hopefully he can go sub 13 next year
In my opinion the US can still medal in a major champs in the 5,000m
Just shows how mental it all is.
People talk about the training/genetics of the Africans...Ive always maintained its something else.

Not training/genetics as much as culture and their lifestyle at a young age

Yes, and where ARE those crazy folks who claim certain regions of the globe produce more genetically gifted runners for certain events than other regions of the globe NOW?? Probably hiding. Idiots. Teg and Ritz proved it was a myth all along.
Oh, meanwhile, time to update the top 100 all-time performer list in the 5k:
# of East African born athletes 75
# of white american born athletes 3
Crazy "genetics" nuts....
(# of north african born athletes: 14
# from the rest of the world (europe, asia, south america, middle east, rest of africa) : 8
