No, he is not a tool for offending me, or anyone else for that matter.
He's a tool for even having the mindset to choose such a "name" for himself. Toolish is as toolish does. See?
As I mentioned in my previous post, you do realize that Kobe Bryant nicknamed himself the Black Mamba?
Is Kobe a big tool also?

Kobe is white inside so his nickname can't apply.

My take on the 10000 is that the Flying Chalkstick will take it out pretty hard, showing no signs of rust, weakness or 20m hill sprints. He will be closely followed by Tostada Boy. Little O Wigga will be laying off the pace, looking less comfortable than a muffin at a carbo loading party. Black Cactus and Surge Chucker will push the pace between 3 and 5k and keep things honest. Black Cactus will win it by a watermelon slice. Flying Chalkstick takes second and Little O Wigga -- a bit overworked after trying win more of dat Evil Inc money at NC's -- bravely holds on for third over Tosada Boy, who may surprise everybody once again if he's done enough speedwork and hasnt been lazy.
POD. Who is the Flying Chalkstick? I am racially assuming Tostada Boy is Jorge Torres. Flying Chalkstick = Ritzenhein or Nelson?
I wouldn't be surprised at all if Abdi beats Rupp. I know people think Rupp is going for the win, but it seems like he and Salazar know what they're doing and I think the goal is qualify more than win, and if that happens he'll be cruising somewhere in the top 3, but it could be 2 or 3. However I think Rupp will be way ahead of Abdi at Worlds and will absolutely obliterate his prs this summer.
I think Abdi wants the win more than Rupp.

Again, I highly doubt Rupp holds out on salary to wear his Oregon jersey at home without a lot of focus to win. If he loses he won't let it get to him as he's focussed on Berlin, but I'm sure right now he wants to say goodbye to Oregon as he says hello to the title of US National Champion.

My point exactly. Either Abdi is clueless and doesn't understand or he is just selling out for a dollar.
Black Cactus is not appropriate. The name sends the wrong message, mostly to young highschool runner fans (see FLOTRACK demographics), that branding people based on race is okay. It isn't

It is these kind of threads that illuminate how dumb some of us are. This is all chest-thumping and stupid. If abdi doesn't win you guys will look stupid and if he does the other half will ... just relax and let it happen and enjoy the result ... why is there so much trash-talking? One side will always have to eat crow. I guess that is why so many of you make up new handles (black cactus super fan) just for one topic?
I did learn one thing, the guy above is bad at math or history?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emancipation_Proclamation... and I can get a "black cactus" T-shirt for $53 if live in Canada, or outside the US. Sweet deal.

The only people I was able to recognize by your nicknames were Torres and Abdi. Surge Chucker should be Chelanga but he's not eligible for USAs.
To the one or two guys whining about how Abdi's nickname includes the word "black": Either lighten up or shut up. This isn't 1965. Nobody cares. What's he supposed to call himself, "Man who bears a resemblance to a cactus but is of the wrong color"? Ya, catchy. I supposed "The Flying Finn" offends you people too? Oh no his nickname is based upon his Scandinavian heritage! Call the Political Correctness Police!

Just because of this post, when Rupp beats Abdi I'm going to start calling him "The Great White Hunter."
Some people take race way too seriously.

But don't disprespect Rupp who had the fastest 10K time ever for an American at the Olympics and was the top finisher outside of Africans.
Turkey is not in Africa.
Anyway, I think Rupp will win because Abdi isn't sharp at the moment, but I still think Abdi is the better 10k guy for the next year or two if he can stay healthy and focused. By the time the 2012 Olympics come around, Rupp will be the one to beat (but he won't be, not by any Americans, unless Teg moves up).
Eatyer wheatings, you could not be more wrong about Rupp being more valuable than Walter Dix to Nike.

A man identifying himself by his race is in no way toolish.
The one thing that we can be sure of is that Galen will look back three times in the final 100m

And if you're trying to use that race as one to predict tomorrows outcome, think again. Rupp is a completely different runner now and Abdi will have had to bring it up a lot to match him. I hope he does, and I hope there is an epic race. I think however that Rupp is going to thrash everyone at the end of that race and those who said that Rupp can only close fast off of slow pace are going to be silenced.
I have to admit I was indifferent about who wins until I read your post. Now I hope Andi wins and I understand all the Rupp hate. He has the most annoying and concieted fans that keep repeating that he is at a different level. Look, until he proves it on the track he is just a runner with annoying fans.

That's not what I said.

Abdi is straight from Africa transplanted to Arizona. He doesn't have any stake in the American slavery saga or the civil rights movement. Cosby had the Brown Hornet, so how bad is the Black Cactus?
His T-shirts are $pendy though.

In many ways he already has, and a lot of non "fans" have recognized it, hence the near 70% in favor of victory poll on the front page.

Fair enough. Just making sure you realize that from a marketing perspective medals are worth more than being top 10 in the Olympics, assuming a good race.

I rest my case.
