USA 1500 Semifinal Qualification Format and Process - What the heck do you do with 49 entrants??

Like to know myself.

12-13 in 4 first round heats. Top 5 in each heat plus next 4 fastest advance.

12 in the two Semifinal heats. Top 5 plus in each heat plus next 2 fastest advance.

12 in the final.

There is no semifinal. The first round is Thursday, women's final on Sat, men's final on Sun. With all these people scrambling for the final spots, I think the prelim will be pretty intense.

Do you think it would be fairer to have 3 heats of 16 (3 place + 3 times) instead of 4 heats of 12 (2 place + 4 times)?

Makes perfect sense to me. I hope they do that.

I would think they might allow 14 in the final, and run 4 sections, taking the top 3 plus the 2 fastest.

agree and posted an as of now 20 deep seeding chart on one

of the other 1500 threads

This is stupid, put a semifinal in it, make it as similar to the actual WC/OG as possible.

Otherwise, 3 heats of 16/17, top 4, plus next 2 fastest, although that's stupid.

knowing USAT&F we might see 4 trials pick2+2 fast

with wheating manzano,myers,lomong,webb, fernandez and leer in the first heat.

Someone of note is not going to make the final in this format.

A slow heat and a mad dash with 13-14 runners, it's easy to get nudged out of the top 2.

Exactly what I was thinking. I was hoping Wheating would choose the 1500 and show what he can really do their but with his lack of experience and his racing instincts he's bound to get caught up in a sh#t storm coming down the homestretch and miss out. And if not him others who should be in the final.

My choice would be 4 heats, with the 12 fastest times to the final.

The guy is ridiculous. I would say he's one guy that is almost a lock to Q.

Believe me I know, but it's often his first part that leaves him in the danger zone. The problem is, if there are several guys that can kick close to what he can on the last lap and he could get stuck trying to make up too little too late. For example, when Wheating gets cut off he has to wind up again to get going. If he is in 5-6th and on the outside with 200 to go I don't think he'll have a problem at all. But weird things happen and he has a lot to learn about elite 1500 racing.

In the men's 5000, there are thirty-four declared runners for a final only race. Since it's the last race of the evening, perhaps they'll run it in two sections. If they do, and divide it by time, then Brent Vaughan, a 13:18 guy, might wind up in the second section. The men's 10000 has twenty-eight guys declared (with Goucher yet to declare).

Don't forget that American athletes are such wusses that they complained that the Olympic Trials made them too tired to do well at Beijing. In response, another wuss, Doug Logan and his hand-selected Committee declared that they are going to limit the 2012 Trials. Well folks, the proof is in the pudding...when they had a chance to do something about it, all these wusses let 49 athletes get into these World Trials and everyone is afraid to replicate the World Meet because it might make our athletes "tired". Just saying...
