What is the proper way to pick up a girl at a bar

At the point you decided it was time to leave, if you thought it went well then just ask for her number. Say, "I'd like to hang out with you again sometime." If she's interested, she'll respond.

Seems like you did it all right, and then you blew the save. Of course, I'm assuming you talked for a substantial amount of time and did not cover those topics in 5 minutes.

The thing to keep in mind here is that if you're intent on just having a one-night stand, then you don't really need to worry much about having a lot to discuss. Rather, get just drunk enough to loosen up, and then talk about whatever comes to mind. In these types of situations what matters are looks and personality. What you actually talk about matters very little. If you're sincerely confident, at ease, engaging and funny, you're set. Don't put too much emphasis on the outcome, because you'll tie yourself up. Instead, just talk to any girl that you think is hot, and approach her and let things unfold. Don't plan what you're going to do, don't come up with topics to discuss ahead of time.

Tried and true topics:

Making fun of fat girls at the bar (she'll take it as a compiment that you find her attractive).

Asking obviously stupid questions (what's your favorite number?, how do you feel about mismatched socks?, are eggs dairy or meat?, etc). Ask her dumb questions in a pseuodo-serious tone, and if she's intellegent, she'll get the humor and play along.

Also, don't hesitate to touch her. Not creepily obviously. But eye contact and body contact are crucial.

Finally, don't be the guy that has it in the bag but then doesn't pull the trigger. The moment you get that inkling that she might want to kiss you, or go home, do it. If it doesn't work, big deal.

The sober lightdrinking guy gets pick of the litter AND closes about 25% more often than the drunk fumblefvcks the drunker.

Are you trying to pick up a girl that you potentially want to date? Or are you just looking for a little bit of fun and a quick hook up?

It sounds funny but to let you in from a girl's perspective, a lot of guys' intentions leak through in their demeanor. I'm not big into one-night stands, but if that's what you are looking for I won't judge you for it. But the trick is not to make it incredibly obvious in your conversation with girls. I won't lie, nothing irritates me more than when a guy is rattling off questions like he feels the need to interview me and get the talking over with because he thinks he will get me to leave the bar with him. Again, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with wanting to have fun and hook up because there isn't. But in all honesty, when it's made too obvious it ruins the fun and also I think the girl subconciously feels cheap. Also, you can't expect to socially click with every girl you meet. She might be attractive, but some people are honestly just not that interesting. I used to get incredibly frustrated because I went through a lot of the same empty conversations you did with people I met while I was out. At first I thought it was just me and that I wasn't good at holding a conversation. But I soon realized that when I am truly attracted to someone beyond the "T&A" point, then I have no problem starting and holding a great conversation with them even if it's the first time we've met. It just flows freely from the start. If you feel like you have to press to keep her talking, I would move on and not worry about your conversational skills because it's probably not your fault. I will admit that once in a great while I feel like having a fun hook up but even so, I still set my standards higher than talking to the first decent looking guy at the bar and wanting to go home with him after asking about his college degree and what his favorite color is.

One more thing, to give you a better piece of advice, I personally like when guys ask me to come play a game or something versus "can I buy you a drink." I can't think of one bad time I had when someone asked me to go play darts with them and few of their buddies. She will know you are interested in her because you asked her to join you - but it's not so exlusive and awkward because it's still involving you and other people so it helps keep the conversation light. After the game it will feel much more natural to sit down together and get a drink. And don't be scared to ask her to play something ridiculous like Big Buck Hunter. I guarantee that will get her talking and laughing more to you than you buying her another Mich Ultra:)

You pulled those proportions out of your ass, and it shows. The problem that you and the OP have is that you're wrongly assumining that the content of what one says significantly influences the likelihood of a hook up; it does not. It's all in the delivery. If you are confident, pleasant and humorous it doesn't matter what you say.

You seriously have to resort to putting other girls down in order to let a girl know you think she's attractive? I can think of a million other ways to do it that don't involve being a prick.

Relax, Gloria Steinem. I offered an example of a conversation topic that I've found to be effective from personal experience. It was not the only topic I offered, nor did I imply that the clever barb need be delivered in an overly "prickish" way. Also, were I to use that approach, I'm not "resorting" to anything. In the actual sequence of events, I'm probably really hammered and purposely having fun with the situation, entirely univolved in whether it will "work." In fact, I'm just having a casual conversation with another human being who just happens to be a female. So, in such a circumstance, why I should "resort" to anything is funny. I'm not even thinking about the social interaction in question in those terms.

Are you the type of guy that talks about the "girl that got away the other night" with all your buddies for a week after it happened? I bet you are. Relax, man.

And if you play it right, it still won't matter. Once I stopped worrying what women thought about me, the world opened up for me and ironically I found women much more into me.

I think Sniffson has it right. It doesn't matter what you say for the most part. Say whatever, and don't care. If you are comfortable with who you are, that's the most important thing.

Picking up a girl at a bar and using a pickup line on a girl at a bar are two very different things. One is acceptable, one is lame.
