Any word on where Jacob Hernandez is? I don't see him in the regional results. Defending NCAA champs don't get a bye, do they?

There is no bye. If you already have one of the fastest times in the NCAA you can qualify without finishing top-5 at regionals, but you can't just not run regionals at all.

He was officially DNS here:

On the anchor leg of the 4x4 at the Big 12s he hopped into the infield at 150 meters. Hammy? Stepped on curb? I'm not sure, but he DNFed it. His 800 was not stellar either after a quick first lap.

I just confirmed with the UT track and field office that he'd pulled a muscle and did not compete in the Regionals.

This is a Nike conspiracy to ensure Andy Wheating wins the 800.
-
What conspiracy...pretty sure that TX is a Nike school, and one that probably sells a lot more licensed merchandise than Oregon does...
-
oh yeah hurley you really got him...since he was serious and everything

This is why coaches want to do away with regionals. He may have been able to heal up before the NC's, but this meet assured that he would not go.

Yeah, makes much more sense to base qualification from a time as early as mid-March instead of fitness 2 weeks before Nationals...
