DESMOND O'CONNOR stories???

yeah, in '96, I set up a bunch of runners for a week to spend with the kenyans in hattiesburg camp before the . my dad helped set up 3 rooms where folks could stay and crash. he and a bunch of other losers came up and stayed three days, ditched the bill and left. the jerks still owe me money and looks me right in the face like he didn't do anything wrong. how's that for a story.

I know of the guy, have raced against him and met him before in New Orleans. I thought I was in shape to win a 5K down there back in the late 80's and some guy who looked 50 years old and like Rod Stewart kicked my butt.

I do not know him well, but have some friends from the area who know him very well. Last I heard of him was about a year ago and he really was 50 or so and running 16 minute 5K's........if that is really correct.

I spanked him at the Witches Moonlight Run in NO, LA in the late 80's. =)

Desmond is one tough SOB for his age. He can drink like a fish. Not sure if he's still running or racing.

Speaking of the Kenyans in Hattiesburg... I wouldn't pay for the room either, since the real Kenyans did not show... only their sprinters and jumpers.

Yeah, I'm sure you would have kept up with the women...btw Eric Waniana did get a medal...oh wait, a medal winning Kenyan doesn't count. What does then?

I posted a few Desmond stories about 2 months ago on this forum. The guy is a real hoot, he told me that he ran the 5000 in the '80 Oly games. Last I heard, he was crooning at The W Hotel in the French Quarter and rumor has it that he signs autographs in the French Quarter as Mod Rod. The guy can hold his beer however, and while I don't think he has raced in the last 2-3 years, he was turning 32 min 10K's a few years ago while in his mid 40's.

So, Desmond ... if you are 52 now, why is your age listed as 43 at the Jackson Day Race - Sunday, January 4, 1998 ??? ~6 years ago ... that would make you 49, or somebody is telling a big one.

I wanted to be in the 40-44 age group for undisclosed reasons.

The guy is a legend in New Orleans! Every time I performed there at the Superdome. people would come up to me on the street and say, "Hey Dez, how far did you run today?"
