Why do we have to shower in a big room with a bunch of other naked guys? I'm tired of this discrimination.
And I'm tired of trying to simply comb my hair in front of the mirror and some guy is always standing there buck naked shaving his face while his junk is practically hanging over the sink. Is this really necessary?
Maybe I'm just getting old, but I think it's time for a modesty movement on the men's side.
Admit it: you have an extremely small penis and you feel embarrased for it.
The honest answer is because women don't have sex parties with each other in showers. Go to most big city gyms and mgmt has major issues with guys getting it on in showers and saunas.

On a separate but related issue, why are gay men allowed into men's bathrooms? Why can't I, a straight man, go the women's bathroom and hang out?
Because every guy in the world would rub one out.
No one wants to stand on that shower floor.

Girls don't have community showers, generally, like guys do. They don't feel comfortable showing with all the other girls able to see them. I think they should not be so shy and get over it.
I like the community showers cuz there's more space and I can see and talk with my teammates. I'm in no way gay, but when I go to shower in a personal shower it feels weird now that I'm used to the community one.

My wife informs me that gyms we've belonged to (YMCA, gyms on military bases, etc) all have private shower stalls in the women's locker room. She finds it bizarre that men have to shower in an open bay.
How would we know who is in charge without measuring each others penis in the shower?

I was in a college locker room a few years ago and thought of Letsrun.com - no joke. There were two scrawny guys in there giggling like school girls, who had spotted a guy at the other end of the lockers who was hung like a horse and I mean massive ... anyhow the two Letsrun "schoolgirls" couldn't stop giggling ... it was shameful.I'm an old guy and the open shower thing was normal. What I find really weird now ... despite all of the bravado here, is the number of boys who shower with their shorts on.

Years ago, right out of college, I worked at a YMCA in the gym. There were a bunch of old men that came to the place in the middle of the day. So, I had to drop a deuce, go walking into the men's locker room, and saw one of the funnest things ever. There was this little old guy, probably 5'5", but stocky, standing at the mirrors stark naked using one of the hair dryers. Only...here's the thing. He had not hair on his head. No. He had one foot up on the bench and was drying his balls! There was a brief moment of awkwardness, followed by him giving me the "what's up" nod. hahahaha I just could not hold it back and started laughing immediately. I probably should have left the locker room, but I continued toward the stall. As I sit there dropping the deuce, I could not stop laughing. good times, good times.
I can't quite relate to this. I've been a member of two gyms in my life, and both had private stall showers. Perhaps you guys need to start hanging out in better places.

I have been in lots of women's locker rooms where there were communal showers, but they were all team locker rooms, not gym/fitness center locker rooms. I guess I've never seen a women's communal shower in a gym or fitness center, come to think of it.
One theory for this inequity of privacy could be that men have urinals to kind of break them in to public exposure, whereas women always get to pee in private. Maybe that's why some women have a hard time showering in public? I don't know...

Just move to Maryland. We are so open-minded here you can use the restroom/shower facility of the gender you that "identify as", instead of simply the gender that you are...like most close-minded places make you do.
