The rich get richer! Go Ducks!
Elijah Greer, the Lake Oswego senior who has become one of the fastest rising young middle distance talents in the U.S., confirmed that he will sign with Oregon on Wednesday.
Greer could be the jewel of Oregon's recruiting class this year, a long-sprinting talent in the mold of Andrew Wheating.
Greer's personal best from last June, 1:47.68 in the 800 meters is the fourth fastest in U.S. prep history and smashed Michael McGrath's all-time state best.
How fast is that? Only six Ducks have ever run faster.
It was not an easy decision. Greer said he was interested in the idea of moving to the East coast and accepting Georgetown's offer. And he said he found chemistry with the team members at Washington.
"It came down to where my talents lie and where I thought I could have the most success," Greer said. "You have to go off your gut. I had a good feeling about UW and it was hard to let it go."
The opportunity to be part of Oregon's resurgent program, and train with the likes of Wheating, an Olympian, was too enticing to pass up.
"I feel like taking it to the next level, (Oregon) can help me get to that point," he said.
