I agree. As much as I think it would be hilarious if he didn't (since he's been trying for / seeded as 4:00 in every mile /1500 race he's entered in the last year), I think he's going to get it this time. Likely the mile will be rabbited this weekend and won't go out in 2:15. He's shown he has the speed for it and I agree with your time prediction.
I hope so. Although if he breaks it, I think it'll be closer to 4-flat.
Not saying he will run it. But i thought his 151.3 suggested he could do 357. Have to imagine his mile speed is about 7-8 seconds slower by 800 given his 10k focus, and there's a good chance he'd be a 150 guy this weekend if he ran it.
So if the race goes out in 159 or faster, i predict 356.97
If it goes out in like 202...i say 359.50
hey guys, what do you think would be galen's open 400 time?
seeing as how he can't break 4 (although he probably will tomorrow) i would say its a 55 or so...
does anyone think his lack of leg speed will be a limiting factor in the 10k on the world stage?

Yes. That's why he's going to move up to the marathon.
whoops, forgot about his impressive indoor results so far like the 1:51.XX
he's definitely at least 53...still pretty slow though..

Since he has run 1:51 for 800m indoors, I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess he can run much faster then 55. Probably around 51, plus or minus a second.
And yes, his lack of speed (although it appears to be improving based on his XC Nats kick, 30/40 workout and recent 1:51/4:10 double) will be a huge impact on whether or not he can medal...Bekele has consistantly closed races in 52-53 range for the last 400 and close to 4:00 for the last mile. Rupp can barely hit those times on their own, so yes, I'd say his lack of speed will be a limiting factor.
What race is tomorrow?
I'd say his limiting factor will be lack of endurance. Except in a very slow-paced race he's just not gonna be with the top guys with a lap to go, so his lack of speed won't even matter.
And to the guy saying his top 400 speed is 55: seriously? he probably went out at least that fast in his recent 800
Speed and endurance are linked. If Rupp could run a 46s 400m, he wouldn't be a medal threat since he would be 30+ seconds back when the kicking started. Of course if he was 49 instead of a 51s guy, he might not be 30secs back.

During his senior year of high school, Galen split 54.1 in his only effort in the 4 x 400. On that occasion he got the baton well ahead and ran only hard enough for the team to win the race - which clinched the meet for us.He was planning to run the 4 x 400 at our District Meet until he came down with a slight injury; not serious enough to keep him out of the meet, but not something we were willing to take a chance on in the 4 x 400. At the time we were confident that he could run low 51s, maybe 50 point.I can't speak to his speed development over the years, but five years ago his leg speed was pretty good.Dave FrankCentral Catholic

Rupp and Salazar as recent as last year said his best 200 speed ever was 26 seconds which is why he's focusing on speed now. Although i found that hard to believe...that is what they said.
I find it embarrassing that I could wax an 10K Olympian in a 400. I have probably met over 100 people and have witnessed over 1000 more run faster than 51 seconds for the 400. It's not that hard. And if a guy with that poor of speed can be our best 10K runner, then that is a joke. I have always admired Galen's abilities at the 10K, but there is no way a guy will be threat in world-class meets if he can't cut a sub 3:35 in the 1500.

I wonder how many of those 1000's of runners you have witnessed can break 28 minutes for a 10k.
Split 2:57 high in the DMR last night. Im feeling confident in my prediction.

Rupp ran the 1600 last night, not the 1200.

Sorry. 3:57.
after watching that dmr, it looked like Rupp eased up about 400 meters in (allowing Dorian to easily latch on) and then couldn't outkick an obviously very fast kicker and miler.
I don't know his 400 splits so I could be wrong, but it looked that way.

I agree. I heard he went out in 57 which was a bit too fast, and then you could visibly see that he slowed a good amount, and when Dorian caught up he picked it up and you can see the instant seperation on teh rest of the pack.
