I just realized that KK and Culpepper averaged 2:07:48. It doesn't mean anything, but it sounds really impressive to be able to say that two Americans averaged under 2:08 in a marathon.

no it doesn't.
very funny post...
at the finish yesterday they had a big screen and were showing coiverage of KK running his last few miles. in an effort to get people fired up the finish line announcer was saying "we are going to witness a new world and american record, as KK is well ahead of pace." i can undersatnd saying that even if he was close to record pace....fine. get people excited to cheer hime to the finish. everyone got fired up, KK won and didn't break the record.
however, just 4 minutes later as culpepper was coming in, the announcer says "here is allen culpepper, the first AMERICAN finisher."
quite a slap in face to KK. especially when it was convenient for the announcer to build drama by including the possible american record part, but then completely forget about KK when culpepper finished.
i will admit, it was prob just an honest mistake, but it bugged the hell out of me. there, i'm done.
That's very hillarious ,too.
My stomoch aches.
