Was it Tergat of Njenga? The BBC Radio said tergat was hauling ass and may have caught him at the line.

I thought I had Takaoka at 2nd 10 minutes ago,
but now I'm getting Njenga 2nd-2:06.16, Tak 3rd-2:06.16, and Tergat 4th-2:06.18.
Hell of a finish. El Mouaziz finished 5th-2:06.4x, awfully fast to not claim the podium..

I thought Njenga was listed from Japan, but that sounds like a Kenyan name.
Njenga is a Kenyan living in Japan on one of the Japanese corporate teams. He is most likely a Kenyan Citizen.
These results are very significant, 4 guys under 3;00/km, and Takaoka's Japanese Record!
Now Takaoka owns the Japanese 3km, 5km, 10km and MARATHON Record.
The Marathon time is also an Asian Record....good on him! He took his time down by about 3 1/2 minutes!
jason
Yeah,he has been living in Japan since he was a high school student.
But his marathon had been dissapointing. And this time he beat Tergat with time 2:06:16.just amazing.something like dream. And he became the tenth Kenyan to have sub 2:07 PR.
I'm pretty sure Njenga was the guy who won the race where Kennedy debuted in the 10K.
Fair play to the Japanese guy for not being afraid to give it a go against such good opposition. Real shame we didn't see the finish for 2nd place on the telly.
That was Michael Njenga, ex-Texas Tech runner, who actually got 3rd in Kennedy's debut (Kennedy won, I think Culpepper was 2nd).
OK, so does anybody know anything about David Njenga? He just ran 2:06 low! What has he done before?
No,he's Daniel...
He came to Japan in 92.sendai ikue high school- ryutu economy university -Yakult
He ran fastest in his sections at all Japan high school ekiden three years row.
in 95, he came second at Hekone preliminary 20km with time 59:27.96,59:09,97,59:37,98,58:38 .
in 1996 he got second at Tokyo city half with time 1:00:27.1:01:10 in 98.at track he won many during college, with best 5000m13:36,3000mSC8:27.
And when he entered Yakulut he passed 20 people in his section at new year ekiden(while he has fracture during the race).and from then he ran fastest in his section three years row.He was good at ekiden.
And if my memory is correct he ran 11,6 section with time which equaled 26:30 for 10km.TV concentrated on Ngatho also Kenyan running amazingly but who ran fasted in the section was not him(Ngatho also time qhich equals 26:40,maybe course was fast,or there were tail wind).11.80kmDaniel Njenga Yakult 31min08sec
53:58 18km in 2000. 32:03 in 11,8km in2002
He got second at all Japan championship 2001/6 with time 28:05.and second at Sapporo international half with 1:01:34.
He got 17th at Hukuoka last year with time 2:20:58.
2:20:58 He got second this year's Betudai marathon his sixth marathon with time 2:12:43.and said he was sorry but happy with second but he also said he was sure he can run 2:06 if all conditions are good(though I thought unlikely).
His PR was 13:36,5000m,27:51(Shizuoka internatinal track this year),10000m,21:11:49 marathon(HUkuoka 99).
1995/2/5 2:20:28 1 Ayanokuni
1997/2/9 dnf Tokyo
1999/12/5 2:11:49 10 Hukuoka
2001/3/4 dnf Biwa lake
2001/12/2 2:20:58 17 Hukuoka
2002/2/3 2:12:43 2 Betudai
He also set world JR 8:19 at 3000mSC.It was said he has problem with endurance, expecially in slow pace race.He has speed and is good at road but it was thought he was rather bad at marathon(still he said he aimed WB).But in this flat course and first pace suit him,I think.Beside he has been well this year.
