WESTERN MICH CUTS MENS CC/TRACK!

One of the biggest problems with Title IX is the "proportionality" requirement. Basically, if your school population is 53% women, then Title IX requires that 53% of the athletes (or close to it) must be women. That is truly insane. In general, there are more boys participating in sports in HS and therefore there will be more boys/men who will want to participate in college athletics. You cannot legislate that women participate in collegiate athletics... INSANE, I tell ya!

Yeah the effects of title 9 and the bullshit attitudes of administration towards track and cross have been felt throughout my running career. I run for a D1 school in the MWC and I can tell you that the sport is dying. It will for sure be around till I'm out of here but what then? The attention span of Americans has dwindled to such a point that they can not fathom a real sport like running. Don't get me wrong I like watching football, but the fact is running is one of the hardest sports that takes the most dedication. I would rather watch a track meet anyday against a football game. Of course I'm pretty bias but that's the way I feel. In the case of WMU cuttting their program I feel for the guys that are on that team. Athletic administrations around the country have shown time and time again that they don't care about serving the athletes anymore (even though that's why they are there). They work to only serve their interest and what can you do, football and basketball are big money and that's what makes the world turn! "Gender Equity" HA! give me a break! Title 9 is so f***ing skewed it makes me sick. It's ok though I guess those girls that never did athletic in highschool do deserve scholerships eventhough they did nothing to earn them. (that was extemely sarcastic by the way) around here we just call them "niners" teh girls that can come out for division I cross country as a means of staying in shape. The girls that can't be cut eventhough they show up to practice any time they feel like it. Anyway all stop my ranting here. But I agree that it is such a shame for Western Michigan. Hang in there guys!
