I was at a high school game and the other team's running back did a goal line hb dive. After the play he was still down w blood through his white football pants. He was taken to the hospital. Later found out that he busted a nut.

Really? I guess I have no reason to doubt you. I know this seems like trolling and I am as amused as anyone by the potential for wise cracks here. But as a regular football fan, I sure have noticed that it seems like a lot of players do not seem to wearing cups.
In any event, how come thigh pads are no longer in vogue?
Plenty of players wear thigh pads. The few who don't believe they are faster without them.
I use too do it ? Now I do karate ?. .

I'm guessing you don't work for the NYTimes:

To be fair, this is a zombie thread, started before most of those articles were written.
Probably best to stop feeding it, so it dies again.

On a side note: do you remember when distance runners quit wearing jock straps?
I can tell you. When I started college in the fall of '71, everyone wore a jock strap under their running shorts for practice and meets. Sometime around '75-'76, shorts with built in briefs came along and I don't think any of the runners I knew wore a jock after that.
You can thank Frank Shorter for that he invented the sewn in liner for shorts.
I think it was Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt (Phillies- 3rd baseman) who said he
always wore his cup.....even watching the game on T.V.
I started both ways (WR and safety) for three years in high school and never wore one and never came close to getting hit there at practice or in a game. Nobody on the team wore them except for a few of the running backs.
This just happened yesterday:
I'm still wincing thinking about that ...
Probably lots of cups being worn today.

Useless without pics.
I can understand football players not wearing them but we were always required to wear them in pony league baseball. Coach would make us line up before practice and tap everyone in the groin with a bat just to be sure.

What's a jockstrap? Is that just a bra for your balls? Why would that be necessary? I can run free balling and it doesn't feel bad. It sort of sounds strange though.
You must be young and dumb.
Twisted testicle.
Look it up.
