I've suddenly found myself needing some words of wisdom, and was hoping someone on here might be able to give me advice. Today I accepted a very special invitation to run in the New York City Marathon, as a guide for a participant from the Wounded Warrior Project. Right now my mileage is only at about 40 miles a week, with my longest run at about 14 miles. My long run pace is about a 7-7:30 min/mile. I have never run a marathon before, and the longest I've ever run at one clip was 22 miles, which was over a year ago. My question is this: Is a 3:30 marathon time an unreasonable expectation? I need to be as confident as possible in whatever time I agree to because chances are, whoever I'm guiding will be hitting whatever target they have lined up. Also, I was wondering if it's a good idea to try to get in an 18 miler or so this weekend, and maybe 20-22 the following...or perhaps a different approach? Thanks to any and all in advance.
