This is a 1 interval workout. "Sam's 1 interval workout" It admittedly doesn't serve any serious training purpose and could possibly add to injury or a serious breakdown, but it is fun to talk about during dinner. Neither I nor my teammates have attempted this workout but we like to argue about how we would fare. It is as follows.
This workout is only 1 interval run on a track. It is a timed run with no predetermined distance. The interval is a 100% effort run for 2 min. It is not a paced run to get as far as you can in 2 min. It is basically a 2 min. positive split. This is how it works. You run as hard as you can for the whole interval. You run the first 100 as hard as you can (basically a pr). You continue as hard as you can to the 200, by the 300 you should start to slow down (while continuing at 100 percent effort). As the wheels start to fall off as you get to the 400 you keep going (at whatever pace you can maintain) After 400 it should look ugly and be painful. If you have to walk or crawl you do it as fast as you can. Realistically 600 meters in the 2 min would be pushing it.
I know many people will not understand the premise of this workout, but done correctly it should be the most painful 2 min run of your life. My teammates and I want to do this after the season is over. Would you try it? How would you do?
