It's your choice. But don't try and have your cake[show your bods/get attention] and eat it too [get angry over the objectification of women's bodies].
The obvious thing that you are missing is that it isn't the same women wanting those things. My closest (female) friend was talking about just refusing to wear bunhuggers when her college team was looking into new race uniforms a couple of years ago. They ended up getting shorts, so it didn't end up to be an issue. She IS a sweatshirt/T-shirt wearer and all her clothes are outdoorsy stuff from REI or those types of places (she doesn't own a dress or anything "sexy").
Actually, though I don't mind viewing pictures of bunhugger clad runners in photos (only because I'm a guy), I really am much more attracted to women who are outdoorsy T-shirt wearers types who don't care a lick about what's in fashion.
"The obvious thing that you are missing is that it isn't the same women wanting those things. "
Well, you would think that would always be the case, but it isn't. Sometimes you are right. But there are plenty of women who dress quite sexy, but still make the classic complaint of being objectified.
I think the obvious think that YOU are missing is: women who dress like your friend (nothing sexy) won't be objectified. So what would they have to complain about? Nothing.
I am just saying men are more consistent: If they want women to stare at them(99% of the time), they take their shirts off and certainly don't complain if any women notices them(but often just get laughed at or ignored anyway). If they don't want to be noticed, they don't show off their bodies.
I love racing in bunhuggers. I feel they are more comfortable...I find baggy shorts and tops an annoyance for racing. Of course some women look better in them then others. I agree that there is no need for highschool girls to be wearing them.
Well, I know that some states don't even allow high schoolers to wear bunhuggers. Michigan doesn't while it is a rarity to see the faster runners in California not wearing them. Interestingly enough, it seems as though there are more girls opening up about their eating disorders in California. Just a speculation I guess.
and one more reason why every women on the planet is a self esteemless insecurity case. Its genetic, it is programmed in their dna to lack self confidence.
hey ladies, serious question, what do you wear underneath the bunhuggers? A lot of guys, including myself, go commando because of the lining inside running shorts. I'm curious if women do as well..
As a guy, I dont like seeing girls wear the bun-huggers. When I'm about to race, a girls ass is the last thing on my mind. Even if I'm not racing, girls do not look good while racing. They're panting, spitting on themselves, the usual race thing. So seeing someone race in teh bunhuggers, even if I would be looking at girls. doesnt do it for me. If they walked around school in them that is a different story.

Well, if she were required to wear bunhuggers, she would have had a complaint. And then there might have been some peer pressure about wearing them from teammates who like them (as some women have agreed they do in this thread). I'm sure that many women who do wear them as part of a team uniform had little choice but to do so even if they don't like them. Even in cases where teammates get to vote on shorts or buns, say if 7 want buns and 6 don't, you will have a significant number who are wearing them only because they have to. I think it's a cool when someone just says, "I'm not going to wear them" and just doesn't put up with being forced into wearing it if they don't like it. I know Marion Jones said that in her book (she only wears the bike short type). Maybe Molly Huddle and others too?
What would you do if you were a guy and speedos were the new trend in racing attire and you were on a team that required wearing them? Hey it could happen. Maybe the Euros might start doing this. Triathlon geeks already run in them. That's something that turned me off of triathlons before I could develop an interest in it. I mean, has anyone ever picked up a triathlon magazine? It's not something I'm interested in flipping through.
As an aside, I think bike shorts are fine on guys. This is from my perspective as a biker even before I started running. Though I don't have a pair for running, I don't think they show your "package" any more than many wispy running shorts at least if they are a thick enough material. Same for tights. Cross country skiers look fine in the race suits that they wear.
It doesn't matter if chicks dig 'em. Sometimes you can't be so damn selfish. Think of others. That's the purpose of bun huggers. They're for the guys. Thanks chicks.

don, what in the hell has gotten into you son?
Ladies, this guy really doesn't represent us. We LOVE seeing you in the bunhuggers if you are lean and tight.
Im a guy, but it always appears that a lot of the girls have thongs on underneath and a few have verified, i dont see how thats comfortable in a race.
I absolutely LOVE racing in bunhuggers.. i never wore em before i got to college.. but i always wanted to.. they're so comfortable.. and who cares if yer ass is hangin out anyway? its a cross country race not a fashion show! and everyone else's ass is hangin out too!!!
Because you are not there to show off your ass!!! You are there to run a race!
Yo dawgs,
whats the big deal? if a ho wants to bust out the bunhuggers, let her. If she don't, she don't.
Some of y'alls gots that Puritan shit goin on. Aint nothing wrong with a ho showin her booty if thats what she wants to do. A booty is a beautiful thing.
Y'all need to chill. For shizzy.
PS girls, I use the term "ho" purely in a non-judgmental way and mean no disrespect by it.
PD
The last marathon I ran, there was a Guy wearing them. It was a little disturbing to see, but he didn't need to be taking those 2 or 3 steps every couple of miles with legs splayed, so the shorts would drop to their "normal" position. I've run in "bike shorts" and find them to be both comfortable and they don't ride up. One of the clubs I'm involved with was going to get shorts for the women's team, but when one said she preferred bunhuggers, suddenly there were a bunch of votes for them. They now wear bunhuggers. I don't care much one way or the other, an attractive woman is attractive regardless of what she's wearing.

I think most people who've tried buns find them more comfortable than shorts, and some people think they're better for performance too.
Where some women dislike them is related to body image issues and feeling self conscious. IMHO it's probably best that they should be mandatory uniform rather than optional because that way, nobody is that noticeable so there's no reason to feel people are looking at you particularly.
Yep, bunnies are great. You're competitive runner, in your teens - there's nothing to be ashamed about with your body. Wear what's comfortable and proffessional, ie bunnies.
So you consider bunhuggers professional? Why?
I agree. Why are huggers more professional than shorts? Might as well wear a thong to race in since most huggers crawl that far up your ass anyway...
