So....I was surfing the net yesterday and came across something pretty sketchy. Eric Kweder, a HS XC All-American from Virginia in 1996 is listed on the roster for the University of the Cumberlands. He previously ran there in 2002 and 2003. There is no possible way this guy should have any eligibility left. He has been out of HS since 1997.
I noticed this as well. I know he was in the army for awhile, but ran at cumberland several years ago. They are NAIA...perhaps thats why he is still able to compete
In the NAIA you have 10 academic semesters to go through your eligibility. Doesn't matter how far apart these semesters are.
He likely ran for a couple seasons, life happened, joined the army, and is now back to zone in on his education....and just run.
I went to this small NAIA school in Indiana for a while. We had a 37yr old smoker, ex-marine, with long hair, and scarred face (due to auto accident). He went to Indiana for a couple years in the 80s, dropped out, got into trouble, joined the army to get "squared away", took a class here and there. Eventually started full-time at this NAIA school. He completed his eligibility and finally graduated after changing majors a few times with something like 160+ credit hours. Fun guy to have on the team. Also worked harder than most guys on our team. 37yr old smoker and all, he ran 28s for 8k XC and a 2:45 marathon.

He is a weird kid who is not very bright. I know he was living in Indiana for awhile working as a broke pizza delivery guy.
Cal State San Marcos had a guy who i know was at least 30 years old and had run for close to 6 schools with several years break in between them.
i know he ran at least 3:46 this past year for 1500
NCAA II has the same 10 semester policy. Ashland University had a thrower (John Schulte) who won NCAA's in the discus in 1992. He then left school for ten years and popped up as a soph in 2002. He won the NCAA title that year as well.
Look for a title again in 2012. Redshirt in 2022 and his fourth title in 2032.

Any updates on this strange case. I can't find anything since April.
I met the guy a couple years ago at a get together a friend had.
He was really into his running but did come off a bit odd.
Strange to find out he did this.
I also just found the April article about his competency to stand trial and his mental state for acting out while in custody.
Yea its crazy seeing him in the news for murder. He actually helped coach my D3 XC team in Virginia. I went to Virginia Wesleyan College, and he would help with our workouts and what not. He would come and go, he showed up sporatically, and he did come off a bit odd. He talked about how he was injured and prob wouldnt run again. Then he just disappeared. Im guessing thats when he moved to alexandria.
