I am looking for replies/advice from other runners who have been in a similar
position as me.
I am a dedicated runner. I work out twice a day, am committed, and have goals.
I am not a professional runner obviously(I am working a full time job), but I
see myself aiming toward sub-elite marathon times(in my view 2:20) in the near
future if I stick to my training plan. I am 25 years old and self coach, and
have been doing so for the past few years. My profession is in architecture(I
know is a very difficult field). I am required to work 40 hours a week, which
I do fulfill(40-45 usually) in a very healthy and balanced lifestyle, and works
well with my training. However, my boss has pushed me to stay late(which
occasionally I will do during crunch time-or I'll work a day here or there on
the weekends). But he seems to expect me to work all the time. My other
life(running) is very important, and I have thought about explaining this to
him, but I have held back since I figure he wont understand. I guess it
depends, but has anyone else had experience with this? I have only been
employed for one year so I am cautious to mention anything personal about
myself to the realworld. It is difficult when no one else you work with is a
runner. They just don't understand. I work out at the same times of the day morning and afternoon, so when I leave at 500-530 to get my PM workout in, my boss will complain again.
Should I talk to my boss about the fact I have a training schedule or should I just forget it?
Thanks for any input.
