No races to speak of at all this year, and it's May 10th.
2 DNFs on the road. Cancelled his race at Drake due to poor fitness.
Some may say he's gearing up for a later season this year, but I disagree. He was some slight tweaking in his training from being a WC gold medallist last year.
The gap is being closed between he and his competition right now. If he doesn't race some 1500s or miles before the trials he will probably lack the sharpness he will need to qualify to go on.
I think we all believe that Webb is the class of the field at the coming Olympic Trials. It looks like the potential is there for 5-6 guys to be in the 3:34-35 range by the time the trials are run. Will he be ready to run away from a field like that?
I could see the Trials Final going down 2 ways: 1) Webb makes a move with about 600m to go, opens up about 10 meters on the field, and holds that lead strongly through the finish(Webb is back). or 2) Webb makes a move with about 600m to go, opens up about 5-7 meters. Lagat, Manzano, and Lomong all cover the move and pass Webb in the final straightaway. Lukezic nips him at the tape as well on the strength of an extra hurdle ducking drill.
What do you guys think? Does anybody believe Webb is still in great position for a run at the Olympics?
