If you are looking for a really great summer camp, especially for distance runners, you have to check out and consider ALTITUDE project. I went to it last year for the first time, and absolutely loved it! I am already counting down the days until this year. It is a 3 week long camp, and you can choose which weeks you want to go or you can stay for all 3. It is a Christian distance camp in Mammoth Lakes, CA. However, the camp is open to non-Christians too, so don’t let that hold you back and you miss an opportunity of a lifetime. A typical day at camp includes a morning run, a bible study, Training Tidbits (which last year, Coach Irv Ray and Ryan Hall spoke at), free time for a second run or whatever, and then at night we have ALTITUDE sessions, where we gather to learn about Christian living. The camp is run by Greg “Jimmer” Jimmerson, and Avery Blackwell. Both were very competitive and successful runners at the college level, as Greg competed at Stanford and Avery at Cal Poly. Last year, I got to personally meet Ryan Hall, which was great. He is such an inspiration as a runner and individual. I can personally say that this camp really made an impact on my life, not only physically for my running, but also in my spiritual walk with Christ. And not to mention, the food at camp is not your typical camp food. The food at ALTITUDE is Amazing!! Mammoth Lakes is such an amazing place to run, you seriously want to spend all day on the trails running! So, if you want to experience a great place to train, learn about running from the best, and allow yourself the opportunity to build or strengthen your relationship with Christ, check out www.altitudeproject.com.
And we are supposed to believe that shameless plug came from an actual camper and NOT from an Altitude staff member? Right. It isn't very Christian to deceive.
Sounds like a good camp - but $700 is a lot of dough
Wolverine Camps in Wolverine, MI.
2 footlocker champs have attended.
State champion teams almost every year attend.
I'm actually wearing an ALTITUDE shirt right now...
It's a great camp, I've been two years, the first year one week and last year two weeks. I would've been up there three but school started and I had team camp to go to. (I'm not sure what the plan will be this year for me.) You meet people who are dedicated runners and great people. Most of us keep in contact with each other afterward. You have AMAZING food. They teach you all about training phys and do a mini phys lab with you. One night up there we had at LEAST 10 people who were/are olympic trials qualifiers. The running in Mammoth is great, we always go to the lakes and trails. We do a speed session at lower altitude once a week as well as a life changing long run. There's also fun surprises along the way too. Worth every penny of the money you spend without a doubt. We have the best time up there and spend lots of it sitting in creeks, watching the stars, going to hot springs, campfire, cookout, hiking (we went to Yosemite), and there's plenty of chill time too.
Best place you could ever go hands down. No second thoughts about it.
... and high schoolers should check out TUFF camp. It's a really good camp as well.
UCLA's mammoth camp is pretty awesome.
Here is one worth checking out. Lots of individual attention, former Olympians, great place to run....
Hayward Field & Pre's Trail. Summers in Eugene, Oregon can't be beat.

As far as quality for price goes. The West Plains High School running camp is top of the line. At roughly 150 dollars you spend a week on the river, living out of tents, roughing it with 250 other high schoolers. The hills are uncomparable...this camp is about training, and you train heavy twice a day and play games all day. The quality of runners is top, All-American's Adam Perkins,Brian Roe, and Jason Sandfort are just some of the fames to attend in the past 10 years. There will probably 20-30 kids to run with who are sub-16 guys
I've heard of that Altitude camp before. A friend of mine went last year and said that mammoth is an awesome place to run. He said that they ran into a lot of UCLA's top guys and several of Princeton's top guys were out there training too. He is going back this year and I think I am going to go as well.

I agree. Cost is very reasonable for 7 days and 6 nights
($325) and the food is great.
If you are in Southern New England take a look at The Running Academy. Campers participate in two runs per day on soft trails or dirt roads in and around 2,200 acres of state forest adjacent to Camp Mohawk in Northwestern Connecticut. The camp is located in the Litchfield Hills of on the south side of Mohawk Mountain in Cornwall, CT. Go to www.therunningacademy.com for more information.
I've also been to the ALTITUDE Camp - it's great. The people who go there are awesome! Jimmmers (one of the Directors)is actually Josh McDougal's coach at Liberty University.
Also heard that athletes from 26 different colleges have gone to the camp, including folks from U Washington, Stanford, Texas Tech and UCSB. So you meet some pretty cool people.
So you gotta love the bible to go?No thanks.
