Hi. I'm an HS junior, ran ~16:30 5k in cross, looking to go 4:25/9:35 this year in track
Ok. So all winter I ran base. Averaged 80 miles a week, 3 weeks were over 90, usually 4 or 5 doubles, with a long run ranging from 13-17 miles, usually 2 tempos a week at 6:00 - 6:10 pace that ranged form 25-40 minutes. These felt easy. I did strides fairly frequently. Mileage was usually 7:00 pace
I started track work three weeks ago, after this base. Kept doubles. My first week of track stuff had 3 workouts, 3xmile in 5:15 (very easy), a 20 minute tempo at 5:35 pace followed by 200's, then 4x800 /w400jog in 2:28. all easy. With a 16 mile long run came out to 91 miles, I felt great.
The week after that was a tempo run on tuesday (30 minutes relaxed, 5 miles), a duel meet where I quadrupled as a workout (10:36, 4:59, 2:23, 60flat split) and then a race friday (3200, 10:10, felt so-so) and then a 1600 where I ran 4:50 (2:20-2:30). I know i am in better than 4:50 shape, I ran way faster last year. I just blew up. I think it's overtraining.
I slept 10 hours that night. this was last week. mileage was 85
This week was normal (workout on tuesday went bad) until I realized I needed a rest. I took wednesday off, and ran 30 minutes easy on thursday. I thought those 2 ez days would be enough to get over my overtraining. I did not. I ran a 3200 in 11:00 today, feeling like total garbage (splits 5:00,6:00)
