thurs night tempo run in central park, w 72nd street at daniel webster statue, i think they meet at 7pm

as for tracks, i used to hop a fence or two and run at randalls island. you can get there by 125th st or footbridge on east side at 102nd ? ( i forget)

it was nice to have a whole track and stadium to yourself while in a city of millions. plus wr in 100m was set there in 1991.

also east 3rd or 6th street in alphabet city by east river has track. and nice view of brooklyn and bridges.

columbia univ track is way up at 225th street but i think they lock that sucker up pretty tight.

For a guy working in Times Square and living in Brooklyn, the East River Park track, near 6th Street , is your best bet

I guess I need to learn to embrace my inner dork and invest in a large fanny pack for my keys, wallet, metro card, etc. since it's likely my best bet will be taking the train to Central Park to meet up with most groups.

On a related note, what is the likelihood of trainers remaining under the bush they were hidden beneath for the duration of a speed session? :)

I have seen these in running stores and they look pretty good . . . I've heard good things about them, too, so maybe check it out as an option (if you cannot find them in running stores in NYC, they are available via roadrunnersports.com.)

And maybe wear old, mostly-worn trainers for warmups and warmdowns during speed sessions? Ones you won't miss if they get up and walk away on their own.

That is a 300m track but it works.

Prospect Park has a track club and or tons of people there to train with. Living and training in nyc is different. taking the subway ride to a track, workout, and getting back home can be 4-5 hours. We use run across the Brooklyn Bridge for intervals.

i would contact willy wood at columbia. he has a good staple of both male and female runners he is working with.

East River Park can get pretty windy because it's right by the river. The surface is a bit damaged and there is a lot of slow ass walkers there during "rush hours," so tryy getting there really early... As for hiding you trainers under a bush, I've done it many times in Central Park (even in the most heavily used spots like reservoir loop) and never had any problems... Just make sure it's inconspicuous (e.g cover them up with leaves etc) and that no one sees you put them there.

I'm almost positive I've seen a track in Williamsburg, just off Bedford Ave. around 10th or so.

There is also a very nice, well lighted track with a nice surface at Astoria Park, which would probably be about four miles from Williamsburg on foot.

I've been dumping my belongings in a bush for 20 years now in NY and only once did I have a problem... and that was because I couldn't remember which bush.

But the NYRRC is also a nice place to leave stuff if you're running in CP and will get back there by 8pm.

There are a number of groups that run on the track at E. 6th steet on Tuesday and/or Thursday. I believe that they include CPTC, Urban Athletics, Warren Street and the Harriers. You'll find people in your training category in some or all of these groups. When winter hits, some of these guys will go to the Armory, and others just bundle up and train in the Park.

New York Harriers. Phenomenal group of people. Competitive but pretty chill at the same time.

The Track by the NY POST is 300m. I'm running one lappers at 40 sec's uhmmm My 400m PR is only 47.999999 48.00

maybe we are thinking about a different track..the one they use for Murry B. High School. Along side the FDR Drive?

Yeah, different one. I'm referring to the East 6th and FDR track.

If it's only 300m I have some serious reevaluation of my fitness level to do.

The track at East 6th Street is definitely NOT 300 meters.... I think I know the track you're referring to, but that's not the one that gets heavy use from local running clubs....the one BETWEEN the FDR Drive and the East River at 6th Street is 400 meters

Moving to Brooklyn (Park Slope) in about two weeks - probably going to be doing most of my runs in the early am as well. Where did you find the marked 1600m in Prospect?

What time do you usually train?

There was a beat up track under the Manhattan Bridge, next to the NYPost. It's currently being replaced by a world class looking oval. Do I smell 2012? Anyway, I don't think it'll be finished for at least another couple of months. I've heard of a great track in RedHook, Brkln and the track at VanCortlandt Park(last stop on the 1/9 train) is in beautiful shape..The 6th St track should be calming down a bit now that it's getting dark earlier, it is however a bit on the rough side. Go Harriers!
