I will speculate a 2:21:45 for Drossin in the Windy City (usually not during the marathon). Not quite surpassing Joanie's superlative time, but definitely close enough to chase it 'til she gets it.
I usually don't care much for predictive threads, but not much for alternatives today. Other than Jason's crazed/masochistic post, everything about him is quite stale.
Any other guesses for the continually impressive Deena?
I think she'll steamroll. She's smart enough to know when to hold back and when to crank it. She's excelling now more than ever. I'm predicting she'll run below 2:21:00.
Oh, and I think Deena is a class act.

deena is friggin awesome. i was trackside taking pictures during her 10K AR and she would give words of encouragement to every runner that she passed. she honestly seemed just as excited (or more so) about jen rhines running a PR as she was about her own AR.
2:23
Deena definitely has some intangibles that many don't
have. When I met her and shook her hand she sent a pretty
cool vibe up my spine. If Deena needs an architect for her cafe, let me know. I will travel.

Wow! An entirely postive thread so far. What a nice surprise. I'll add to the love fest. Starting with her freshman year in high school, Deena would stand at the finish line, usually after winning, and congratulate every finisher as they came through. A class act for sure, for about 15 years now. Cheers Deena!
Sorry, Yoko Shibui is going to spank her AGAIN.

By how much?
Drossin is overraced. A sub-par performance in Chicago.
Well, she's not overraced anymore, dude.
I, too, ran against her in high school and she was a class act even then. A couple of weekends ago, she attended a California High School Cross Country Invitational and met and talked with many high school athletes. She also signed many autographs. She is truly an inspiration and I believe that she'll break the AR in Chicago regardless of her overall placing.
I think Deena will eventually get the AR, but not this time. My call is 2:24 and change, though I hope she runs much faster. Hard for me to see much faster than 2:23. Maybe if she uses VAAM... :)
Regardless, as mentioned previously, Deena is a class act.
I saw Deena running in Mammoth in late August and she looked extremely fit. You figure that NYC's course is about 4-5 sec/mi slower than Chicago, she probably ran 3-4 sec/mi conservative in her first marathon, and she has improved 3-4 sec/mi since last year, then JEH's 2:21:45 should be right on for her time.
According to USATF, the US women's marathon record is 2:21:21, by Joan Benoit in Chicago, 1985. Not 2:21:06.
It was Kristiansen who ran 2:21:06, the former world record
Jifar ran 2:07:43 last year. If the course is 4 minutes slower than Chicago, that's 2:03! Come on. I can see 2 minutes, maybe a bit more. Less than 3, though. Maybe 3 for the women, but even then I think it's a bit generous.
Joanie ran 2:21 there and was rolling. Deena is coming off of over-training, and a less-spectacular RNR Half than last year. I still think she'll PR and run 2:24, and like I said, I hope she proves me wrong and sets another AR. Also, last year she was with Okayo and got blown away the last 10+ miles, so it's not like she went out super-easy last year.
You read a little quick, there "tr." "cali spy" only estimated 4-5 sec/mi for course effects, which would be abt 1:45-2:00 for the whole race. Sum of his estimated course benefit + strategy benefit + trainign benefit = 5:00.

A 2:21:07 and a future career in porn.
C'mon, somebody said this thread was too nice!
