I like how a bunch of people on here put artists that not many people have heard of. How can they be the most distinctive if not very many people have heard them.
I would say that Bob Dylan, Freddie Mercury, and Ozzy are tied at No.1
Eddie Vedder, Claudio Sanchez
Dio
Ozzy
Robert Plant
Brian Johnson
definitely agree with janis joplin.

Perry Farrell-Jane's Addiction
Mike Patton-Faith No More among others
There is life beyond your classic rock station.
Bono - U2
Sting - The Police
Jim Kerr - Simple Minds
David Byrne - Talking Heads
Steve Perry - Journey
Michael Stipe - REM
I think quite a few people don't know what "distinctive" means.
Lead singers of Smashin Pumpkins and Nirvana. Although not with us anymore:(
Alison Krauss
I have to agree with Camoo. How can Steve Perry be called "distinctive" when his replacement in Journey sounds exactly like him? Similarly with Eddie Vedder; I'm an admirer of his but he is imitated more than any other rock singer of the last decade.
MICK JAGGER!!!!!!! END OF THREAD AND OF ALL TOPICS CONCERNING BEST ROCK SINGERS/BEST SINGERS OF ALL TIME.
Is the word "best" in the subject?
Has anyone but the OP ever even heard Tom Waits? His voice is unmistakable.

I agree.
And Thom Yorke is a whiny little bitch.
And his music sucks.
Surprised it took that many posts for someone to say Chris Cornell.
