OSU has a badass golf team, headed by true freshman and NCAA championship favorite Rickie Fowler... at least they have that going for them.

I would be more willing to classify Dave Smith as a "baller" than pretty much any other coach besides perhaps Schumacher.
Based on some of the reactions on here it seems the Oregon crowd is getting a little nervous and agitated...

yeah, then next year he could be good enough to get 2nd at Junior Nationals .... oh wait ...
i'd like to see you take 2 1/2 years off from running and then come back your freshman year of college and run a 14:21 and get 2nd at jr nats
everyone wants all the top runners to sign with Oregon, Colorado, Stanford and yet turn around and then wonder why they can't go anywhere else to develop and get an education..as long as you can handle the heat of the OKC and surrounding areas...there are worse places to spend 4-5 years..
Certainly the top runners look at a place like Oregon now and see how many people are there and what the odds of actually scoring in a meet are....never mind how half the people who go there seem to stagnant or stay injured (granted injuries are an issue with anyone increasing mileage and heading to college)
If you are non-kenyan..why go to Iona, who will you hang out with?? That is a big question for the HS recruits nowadays..

the next four years there will be over $400 million being spent on new athletic facilities.
Heard through the grapevine that the track team hasn't seen and won't see a dime of that cause it was already spent on the football team.
good thing they're with brooks or Oregon would probably get Nike to put glass in their shoes
I know two non Kenyans on the Iona team, and they get by just fine with their Kenyan teammates.

who from OSU is going to Nationals in fayetteville this weekend? Better yet, who from there ran a provisional time this year? One guy? I heard that if you're not fast, they make you do intervals a couple days in a row every week and you'll either get really fast or get destroyed ...I also heard that if you arn't running at least 120 miles a week they get really pissed at you and threaten to kick you off ...
You must be f***ing kidding me !
-I was in the OSU program, Smith never asked us to run 120 miles a weak. He just asked us to practice as well as possible, and if it meant 90% of what we are capable of in term of mileage that was it.
- they ve never put negative pressure on us neither. I got unable to run three years out of four(problem to breath, not injuries !!) . I was on scholarship, they have always tried their best to help me to come back up but never threatened me or anyone of us.
They dont see us like some stupid junk bonds that people buy and sell anytime they want depending on how running goes, but like a life time investment.
The first time I met weiss and smith they told me:
" we have two goals for you in this program : first you get your degree, second you run "
" Every battle are won before they are ever fought "
It really cracks me up to see people talk about OSU like they know what they are saying. Okie State has been a force in cross country for quite some time now. If you look at guys like Jon Wild, Kiptum (?), Donny Belcourt, Paul Larkins, and Steve Fury, there have been some really great runners to go through the halls there in Stillwater. I remember this guy, James Ellis Smith. Super nice guy. He went from like 4.20 as a high school age kid to 4.03 indoors. I was always impressed with the way they were squeezing the best out of their guys. There are great places to train there. For example, there are more miles of dirt road than you could ever run in 4 years. Their cross country course is spectacular. They have a great outdoor track. Stillwater itself is not really a bad place to live in either. Granted, it is not San Diego, but really it is just like any other college town. Most people are pretty amazed when they see the quality of girls that are in Oklahoma too.

Fernandez has it made in the shade. At OSU he doesn't have to study, carry books, or attend class. The Athletic Department's Academic Director will have an Asian assigned to him to atten d class and take tests for him.

That's usally reserved for revenue sports. I doubt he will have this arrangement. And, if someone does do this, what do they do when they graduate?

Exactly, these dupes(Oregon crowd) seem to think that they are entitled to everything, including not facing the obvious. Oregon has not really recovered from losing Martin Smith. Oregon is doing all right but they're living on hype. Hell, their prodigal son barely even competes for them. Why worry about being an NCAA runner up (or so), when you can have Nike's PR machine pushing false hopes for Olympic medals.
Oregon is a joke. At this point a top prep would have to be nearly an idiot to consider Oregon's program. For some though, hype counts for a lot.
How bout them Cowboys!!!!
what bout them?
word on the street is that OSU is going to build a 200 meter banked indoor that would rival Texas A&M and Arkansas' facilities..
hopefully it won't get torn up by a tornado.
..you had me until you mentioned the great outdoor track facility. You obviously are mistaken.
girls in ok state?? wow thats news to me when I went there this past fall the girls were a lil big for my liking. and I have to agree with the last postor that there is no outdoor facility at all mr jenks HS runner. Its horrible
Yes we are. Both him and Eagon.
Not great "facility"- great track itself. Who needs fancy stands to run fast? If that is what makes someone proud of their school or team, then they are sunk before they even start. By great track, I meant nice and fast. I ran 3.52 on it one summer, which at the time, was a pb. It was actually even faster when they had the old one from the late 80's. It was hard but springy. I can bet my left arm that you definetly weren't looking in the right place if you didn't see any girls that you didn't think were blazing hot. They are all over that campus!

Doesn't this mean he has to be in Stillwater, Oklahoma?
Have any of you ever been to Riverbank? I coach in the same league as German and have been watching him since he was a freshman. I can tell you two things.
1. Stillwater has nothing on Riverbank when it comes to high temps/smog/general rundownness. Our county has unemployment that is chronicly over 10%, our air basin is the 2nd dirtiest in the U.S. (behind L.A.) And summer time temps routinely hit 107-108 and will stay in the mid to high 90s until october. Trust me, German will feel like he is moving up in the world. Don't get me wrong, there are good things about Riverbank and Stanislaus County in general, but most of the things said on here to make Stillwater sound bad could be said 10 fold about Riverbank.
2. German, his family, and his coach have been thinking about this choice for a long time. Iona sent a guy out to our league cross country championships back in October. He has been wooed by many schools and obviously felt that OSU held something for him that other schools didn't
