Also, I'd like to add that I don't really consider bowling, billiards, or darts sports. Maybe the participants do, not sure, but I phrased the thread this way just because it was easiest. Simply because an activity has a winner doesn't make it a sport. Bingo isn't a sport. If competitive knitting existed, it would not be a sport.
I am completely OK with legit. sports being segregated by gender. If there are physiological differences coming into play, and woman wouldn't have a chance to make a living off competing (e.g. if T+F were combined), then it's better for the athletes, fans, corporations, for the separation.
I also think, though, that simply BECAUSE sports are segregated, in some instances, woman are held to a lower standard. Have you ever watched WBA/WNCAA? The free-throw percentages are laughable. There is no inherent male advantage to making FTs. Pro WNBA players should never be comparable to HS/college guys in this regard, but they are.
For me the thrill of pro sports is to see people do something very few people can do. A 90mph fast ball, or a HR off said fastball. A 54yard field goal or a 3:50 mile. Even a 4:20 woman's mile is excited because not a lot of woman can do it. I can watch HS or college basketball that's meets or exceeds the level of WNBA, so, in it's current form, I'm never going to get excited about that. As much as I don't enjoy watching college basketball, I'd rather watch Hansbrough, who isn't getting paid, goes to class, etc, come out and do his thing than _anyone_ who's getting paid and doing the same thing equally or worse. It just _happens_ that it's woman in the WNBA.
