"A minor toe injury is the reason. In a perfect world her and Ryan Hall will win gold in Beijing."
Fixed your front page, LetsRun. Rooting for Paul Tergat or any African is like being from Colorado and rooting for the Red Sox in the last World Series, and being from New York and rooting for the Patriots in the last Super Bowl, and being from anywhere except Brazil and rooting for Brazil in any World Cup, all rolled into one. And then some. White Americans (and yes, the skin color matters here, and don't pretend it doesn't -- in pretty much all sports except the rich-people sports, the first accepted axiom is "White is weak") are not supposed to win at distance events. F*** that.
I'm rooting for Webb, Teg, Hall -- and all the rest -- to send some Africans home with no medals, no nothing, to starve in their crappy war-torn countries. Well, not quite. I don't hope they starve. But I still want people from my country to get to the finish line before they do. Ten times moreso because -- once again -- white Americans are not supposed to be good.
