9 flat is worthy of money? it is a long way from making yourself a name in the sport, even in the US.
i hope he runs faster and has a great career but contract $ for that performance is not likely.
(Obviously a post by a male who has no concept of female performances). She freakin' finished 3rd and beat sponsored, well-recognized athletes.... Katie McGregor, Erin Donohue, Amy Hastings. This girl's performance is screaming for some help!
you are probably right, a guy most likely wrote that post. but what is she worth to a shoe company? what is any 3rd place finisher worth male or female? are you (a female) going to see julie culley and buy the product she is wearing because she is now sponsored by that company? i am asking about the current mentally of promotion department rather than i am disrespecting any athlete who makes a breakthrough. companies expect a return for an investment. i would send a 9:00 female or 7:55 male some equipment but not give them money or trips. someone on this board must be able to answer the question, what does it take to earn a shoe contract with a stipend? if i remember correctly wejo never had sponsorship and he was 3rd or 4th at nationals twice.
good luck to culley as she is obviously in a great place in her career.
You people need to drop this Brooks singlet stuff. I was at Dick's the other day and saw the same Nike singlet that Khadevis Robinson wears. If I bought that and wore it in a race, does that mean I'm sponsored by Nike? Hell no. I do agree that it confuses companies and agents out there, just as it has confused all of you. But that aside, it doesn't change her affiliation, her lack of a contract, or lack of an agent.
Being coached by Matt Centro should give her some good connections, but knowing him the way I do, he doesn't baby you by making the phone calls for you. He takes your fitness and ability to the next level so people come to you. A 9 flat indoor 3k should do just that.
I'm no fortune teller, but I can't wait to see her burn up the track this spring in the 5k. She has the talent to PR by 40 seconds.
Bump...
Culley picked up another (and more impressive)top 3 finish at a US national championship this weekend finishing second in the USA XC open women's race. She also finished 7th in the OT 5k trials this summer with a 15:34. At what point will this girl get sponsored?
Take this for your perspective: Darvis Patton ran a personao best in the 100m this year and made the Olympic final and he was cut by adidas (notice the Nike gear he's wearing now).
She is sponsored. By the New York Athletic Club. And she seems to be happy about it.
