Just for fun...what would the equalivalent grade be on a TM?
Just for fun...what would the equalivalent grade be on a TM?
Looking at gmap-pedometers here are the three hills (don't have distance between hills though).
Hill 1: +96 ft, 0.6402 miles long ~2.83% Grade (use 3%)
Hill 2: +78ft, 0.3363 miles long ~4.39% Grade (use 4.5% or 5%)
Hill 3: +75ft, 0.4698 miles long, 3.03% Grade (use 3% or 3.5%)
Hill 4 (HBH): +100ft, 0.4788mi long, ~3.96% (use 4% or 4.5%)
Thanks a lot!
another analysis says:
0.4 miles
climb 97'
avg. grade = 4.6%
steepest grade = 5.2%
i'd go with 4-5% for 1/2 mile
analyses for the other hills:
distance - climb - avg. grade - steepest grade
1 0.6 miles +75' +2.4% +3.2%
2 0.3 miles +74' +4.7% +4.9%
3 0.4 miles +63' +3.0% +4.5%
I would basically use 3% for 0.6 miles, then flat for whatever in between then 5% for 0.3 miles, then 1%, then 4% for 0.4 miles then 1% then 5% for 0.45 miles then your done.
Hopefully I'll get to do this whenever I get over my damn hamstring injuries!
awesome
thanks!

more like 180 degrees.
What are the distances between the four hills?
Between hill 1 (Hospital Hill over I-95) and Hill 2 (Braeburn Hill) the distance is about 3/4 mile)
Between Hill 2 and Hill 3 (the just past the Town Hall) is slightly over 1 mile. Like 1.1
Between Hill 3 and Hill 4 (Heartbreak) is about 1/3 to 1/2 mile
best Boston course profile:
Ran this course several times (training runs)
You're climbing from mile 17.5 to mile 21 with a few "dips" thrown in. I really think the true heartbreak hill is the hill that starts right at the Newton-Wellesley line (near a liquor store I think); this hill has a real bad timing after the long downhill out of Wellesley and feels much worse than firehouse (hill #1), town hall (hill #2), or BC (hill #3).

Run some hills in the Colorado foothills or mountains. Boston 'hills' will be like bumps. I did that and when I ran Boston I was expecting something more, the only reason I knew I was on Heartbreak Hill was because of the mile posts.
almost all of mile 19 is a "dip" net downhill mile
