As a distance runner do you go with a 200m or 400m time for your basic speed? I always say that a 200m with a running start should always be used since you don't lose form while you're running all-out all the way. In a 400m basic speed trial, you could very easily lose your form over the final 400m if you go over your-head (i.e. start at top-end speed from the get-go). But some friends still insist that a 400m time should be used. What do you guys think?
