THe regular SAT is impossible to study for unless you just go and memorize a lot of words.
The SAT may be "impossible to study for" (I disagree--see below), but it certainly is possible to *prepare* for!
If you are taking the SAT in three weeks' time, by using a prep book you can improve your chances of showing what you know. I taught for Kaplan, and naturally I recommend their materials; but Princeton Review and others also have good SAT material.
Major difference between SAT and ACT: there's no wrong-answer penalty for the ACT, so it's to your advantage to get an answer down for every question. The SAT does have a wrong-answer penalty, so you should not guess blindly on any question; however, the way the SAT's scoring works, as long as you can eliminate at least one of the answers as definitely wrong, it's to your advantage to choose one of the remaining answers.
A good book will help you prepare for the test itself (and yes, it will give you a limited amount of useful stuff to study), and for Test Day as well. Get started!
