Who here is going?
I have lodging at the Super 8, and seemingly all the other motels in town are clustered near it. Anyone else interested in low key morning runs (around an hour) before the sessions each day?

All the hotels are located at the I-80 intersection, which puts them about 1-1.5 miles out of the actual town, though it is a straight shot in to town. Most of the roads will be clear, so you can run easily enough; head into town and keep going straight up to about 10th street, hang a left and head west out past Will Freeman's house- which is damned cool, since it will the only really modern Frank Lloyd Wright looking house out that way, and keep going out into the country. You have a number of ways to come back without just turning around.
I'll be there...but won't be in town until right before Friday's sessions start. I'm staying at the Super 8 as well but since I'm driving straight through Thursday evening to Friday morning, not sure what shape I'll be in Sat. morning.
I am driving through on Thursday with a buddy. I will be bringing beer as I am not sure what micros there are to be found in the middle of IA -- hell, I wonder if there will even be cell coverage there. Send an e-mail if you want to share some brews. Might have to sneak some along to get through the FS speeches. ;)
Actually it's about 3 miles north from I-80 (on Hwy. 146) to the center of town. To get to Freemans you would continue another 0.5 mile up to 11th Avenue and take a left and then head straight west about 2.25 miles until you get to the house on your right. So a round trip would be roughly 11.5 miles -- depending on weather, an early morning run of that length might be fairly demanding. Freeman's house is neat, but if you're looking for cool architecture an even nicer house, designed by Prairie School architect Walter Burley Griffin in early 20th C., is on the east side of Broad Street, 1500 block I believe. If weather is nasty running in town and around the campus is a good alternative.
