What are the chances of an 800m AR in Monaco

It would be nice, but I think hi 1:43 is more likely

The American record is 1:42.6. Slim possibility. That would be 3 solid races in 8 days. Krummenacker has been on a roll. I have to wonder whats left in the tank. Especially when you factor in all the traveling he's had to do. If he's not feeling the effects of the last week and the rabbit do a good job he could come close. 1:43.lowish.

Physiologically no way!!! But, who can quantify the surge of confidence Krumm must be riding. Like others, mid-1:43 seems realistic.

Anything is possible, The closest we had to the the AR in the 90's were Rich Kenah, Jose Parilla and Mark Everett,

I believe Everett had the record in the bag if he would have ran smarter races. Krum has huge confidence right now he can go 1:42.5 in the right race!

Three races in eight days is actually pretty optimal for an 800 runner, provided the travel factor is minimal. After two easy wins and a breakthrough 1500, I'd say he is ready for 1:43-mid, even if he has to lead.

I dunno about the three races in 8 days theory, because from the DN Galan he is having a couple days rest for Monaco. He won two big meets over some pretty big names, you know. And his coach is the same that brought Joaquim Cruz to a 1:41.77 - obviously he has the credentials and knows what he is doing. This 8 tomorrow could be big, guys!

I still say under 1:43.

It would be nice to see Krummenacker crack the All-time US top ten times. After watching his last two 800's, I can see him running @ 1:43.50. I still think he would make a better 1500 runner.

yeah, i have some splainin to do.... he surprisingly did run 1:43.95... (although I don't think he'll do that again this year)...anyways props for me missin it by .5 seconds

His chances are very good for him to accomplish a 1:44. If and only "IF" the pacing is good, then you may see something faster. He has been running quite a bit as mentioned in previous posts. However, he's extriemly strong and extriemly confident right now. Personally, I'd love to see another big PR from DK.

If anything, he'll be targeted in the race as the man to beat! This may have a negative effect on him, but it hasn't so far.

I wonder how he's feeling the pressure...

that's .6 - 2 seconds mr. bio. johnny's record is going down and i can't wait to see it happen. gray should have hung it up a long time ago.... dropping out of races, running in the 1:50s and getting money for just showing up? bogus, gave american mid-distance runners a bad name. i used to be a big fan, but he blew his chance to win the gold when he went out in sub-50 (88 or 92, can't remember). i think he said before the race "i'm going to run my race and take them (the kenyans) to the johnny gray twilight zone". the only zone gray was in with 350m to go was "i'm running like i have a piano on my back" zone. oh well!

Gray always ran that way and there must have been a reason. So many people have advice on how guys should run but whenever they try a new style they do even worse. Everyone seems to feel they could teach Bayi and Gray how to run better from mid-pack or Everett to run closer to the front. Whatever works best for you. You can't change what suits your physiology. Considering Gray won the trials at 36 and made the Olympic final I hardly think he's the one responsible for giving the US middle distance runner's a bad name. He ran under 1:44 at 37. I don't think it is possible to tarnish that career. Why the hell would you judge him for the downside? Is John Walker less of a runner because he kept going? Whenever someone quits at the top everyone wants them to go until they fade away. Who has had a textbook career? I can't name one.

herb elliott, roger bannister and billy mills come to mind. i am sure that there are many more. they walked away when they were satisfied to take on other challenges.

people can and should attack runners for poor strategy. the best way to run a race is to do it as evenly as possible. think i'm crazy? look at the 100m splits for the mile world record. the second best way is to run negative splits: run the first half of your race as fast as you think you can run the entire thing, then speed up over the last third (how most prs are set). the worst way to run a race would be gray's: run the first 400 as fast as you can and then see what happens. that is a high school strategy. go to some high school meets and you seem it used by many runners that often lose.
