Is it possible to really become a morning person if you are not? I'm asking because I would love to be a morning person, but am not no matter how many consecutive times i wake up early. For example, I wake up at 6:30 every day for school, yet it never becomes "natural" and I never get to a point where I just hop out of bed.
Is it possible to BECOME a morning person?

Its possible if you know the word discipline. If not you're a lazy ass.

It's impossible. Even when I get 12 hours of sleep, I never hop out of bed, only when I'm late. You would really have to dedicate yourself. Since you're not a morning person, you're a night person, so that's where the change would have to be. If you're accomplishing everything in your day, who cares.

I have this problem, too. nothing works. if I let myself wake up naturally I fall asleep later than I did the previous night, and so on ad infinitum. I'm pretty sure that is not the way it's supposed to work.

i was wondering about this too actually. but then i thought about how many people are actually considered morning people, and i know about one, maybe two. i would also like to be a morning person but im pretty sure im destined to be a night person forever. maybe i should jst become nocturnal.

Impossible. You are predistined to be a night person.
There are 24 hours in everyones day. Doesn't matter what time you use them. There are many time advantages to doing things at other times than the rest of the sheep in the world.
Even though I am in the midwest, I just consider myself on west coast time. -
I'm in line with all of your posts. In a perfect world, I would be like Geoffrey and run at 2am. Alas, I don't think that would be the safest or smartest move in Beantown.

lead a pure and wholesome life and waking up in the morning is no problem. Add anything to that pure and wholesome life like caffeine, drugs, women, and u ruin ur ability to wake/sleep as well.

It's impossible to change. You are what you are. I am a night person. I was in the Army for years, and for the last ten years I've been in an environment in which I must get up by 6:30 at the latest on weekdays.
But when the weekend comes, I am definitely crashed until at least 8:30 or 9:00. -
You will become a morning person once you retire.
You know where there are no morning people? Morning lasts 6 hours and starts when it is dark -
I get up at 4:30 and drive an hour to work. I leave work around 2:30 and drive home an hour. From there I coach high school track and xc till 5:30ish. The only reason I get up early is for the kids. It's my only motivation. I hate getting up that early and it is a transition from college, but once you get in pattern, you will be fine.

Yes it's possible but first you have to GROW UP!

More running related, I find I have serious GI issues if I get up too early. I am more upbeat, whether I wake up before or after sunrise, in the am hours. That's what I think of as a morning person. Getting up early to run is another story. I got up at 5 today to do little fartlek and feel drained and out of kilter. It might take me about 3 months, but, if I consistently do it, every day, I don't feel quite as bad. That being said, I've never felt "normal" getting up super early. It just gets less difficult if you are regular about it. Be sure to avoid burning the candle at both ends though. Going to bed late AND waking up early is a surefire way to lose motivation to get out of that warm, comfortable bed...even if you're super-motivated and disciplined.

there's nobody out there who just loves it when the alarm goes off early in the morning. "morning people" are just those who get up out of necessity (get to work early) or because they like the idea of getting their day started early and having time do get things done before much of the world is awake. It's pretty easy to become a morning person. Just get to bed at a reasonable time, set the alarm early, and get up.

It's possible! I did it this summer. For 15 years I was an evening runner. Now I run at 6:00AM or earlier. You will have to go to bed early and you should take the first 15-30 minutes after you wake up as "your" time to relax/move around the house before you run. I usually have a cup of coffee during this time. They key is to start your run easier then you normally would in the pm. After a couple of weeks, your body will adjust and you should be running similar to how you were in the evening (feeling wise). It does take a little time to assimulate - be patient and diligent in getting up even when you don't feel like it. It is a nice feeling during the day when you have your run under your belt and you don't have to worry about what you eat or hurrying home to go for a run.
I hope this helps. -
You don't become a morning person by suddenly learning how to wake up early consistently.
The key is to learn how to go to bed early. If you can go to bed at 8 or 9pm and fall asleep within an hour, you will wake up just fine in the morning. In fact, you may not even need an alarm clock (I wake up 30 mins before my alarm goes off now).
Make sure you are exhausted by 9pm, then get your ass in bed. Give yourself 2-3 months to adjust (it may not take that long) but the key is to go to bed on time. If you've been chronically sleep-deprived you may need the extra sleep for a couple months before 6-8 hours will be enough. 9pm + 6 hours = 3am, +8 hours = 5am.
What someone said about living a wholesome life is pretty much on the mark. Unfortunately all the fun stuff seems to happen from 9pm to 3am. If you partake in the fun stuff you will not become a morning person. Don't fight nature with two incompatible goals. If you want to party and have that kind of fun you are a night person. That's ok. You can always switch and become a morning person later (I did). -

Disagree. I know two close friends that actually just wake up early. They don't necessarily want or need to. They just do. They enjoy it - not becuase they get the day started earlier, just because they just feel good at that hour. (of course these guys suck at 10 pm - no matter what we are doing they have to go home and sleep.) -

I can't say this is universally true. I have kids - for the last 2 years they wake me up at 5:30 or 6 everyday. I mean every single day. I feel like sh*t every time. I go to be between 9 and 10 6 of 7 nights a week - and I still feel like sh*t. If I haven't changed after 2 years, I don't see it happening. -

I would fall into the first category-one who has to force getting up at 5. After the first mile it's just like any other time of the day, except it's still dark, and will stay dark until you're done, which sucks, but is better than not running.
