Alright, I've been running track since '96, but as a field event person, not a distance runner. However, I recently finished with my track career- not by choice. So now I'm gonna start up running distance. I've decided it's best for my to stop everything and cut down on my activities. I was running hard and doing bounding and different things, things that aren't necessarily related to distance training, but are hard nonetheless. So I'm gonna start running in 2 1/2 weeks. My questions is, how should I start up? First, realize my 5k best is about 20:50 and I'm a dude. I ran 50+ miles one week at an XC camp when I ran XC for fun in HS. But other than that, in the last 3 years the most I've done is 35 miles in a week and that was over the summer to get ready for track. This past summer I never went over 25 and averaged uner 20. I wanna get up to 70 miles a week during the upcoming summer and I want to run a 5k in under 19 minutes. But I wanna slowly get up to that. So what's the best way to start up? Realize I'm not a running novice, I am familiar with distance running and I know the basics about it. Just not how to start up a real running program. Thanks for any help.
