I don't know if this idea has come up before, but I think LetsRun should start a post-collegiate team. Wejo, JK, malmo, or whoever could coach it. I think they could get some good runners interested because who wouldn't want to wear the LetsRun.com singlet?
A Proposal for wejo

I'll be part of the Northern Cali chapter.

Hahahah, was I taken by surprise. I was expecting the subject of marriage.
-
She finally popped the question! Did you buy a ring? I can't wait for the response...
-
Everything starts with funding. The Hansons said that it is just a pipe dream until you can afford $250,000 a year for a decade.
-
Doesn't have to be Hanson's level - they could start a wildly successful club-level team.
-
But seriously, how sweet would it be if txRUNNERgirl and wejo got married.
-
Where?

I'd crash the wedding and get trashed and find another way to get banned from this website. -
best man? maid of honor? ring bearer?flowergirl?'bachelor' party host? Will be see a Gatorade toast? Invite Marion or not? Will Malmo write the vows?

So was I. They'd produce runner-oriented spawn.
CONGRATS.
Just kidding Tex, Merry Early Christmas. -
Damn you guys sure give this girl a lot of crap! Grow up already.
-
Who needs the post-collegiate team? They should just start selling singlets for $20-25, and retire early.
-
Good point, but in theory Wejo has the money because of the prediction contests. Of course, they're basically impossible to win. Or we could all work at Home depot 20 hours a week wherever the Letsrun base is.
-
It's just another way to contribute to the sport. They could still sell singlets (maybe in a different color to differentiate). Better yet, non-elites could join a LetsRun running club where they could pay dues and get a singlet, online training from the coach(s), etc. That money, along with the help of a sponsor, could help cover the expenses of the elite team.

That's assuming that there are many "good runners" who would want any of those three as a coach or that any of those three would have both the competency and desire to do it. Just because YOU look up to them....

Anyway, nice of you to propose that SOMEBODY ELSE take your idea and make it work. There's a big difference between the energy and resources required to make a cheapo site like this or Flocasts work and those needed to do even a half-assed Hansons imitation. You weren't around when Wejo was an active competitor, but if he couldn't even get sponsorship for himself then how would he go about getting sponsorship for an entire team? Why don't YOU start up a post-collegiate club in Lubbock? -
your optimism is cute wrote:

She probably would do it. Sis--same bat time, same bat channel? Time to gather the resources. -

They have more money and experience than I do and aren't still in college. I know wejo couldn't get a sponsor, but a company would probably be more willing to support a team rather than an individual. It worked for the Hansons that way. And the energy needed? I think JK and wejo probably already help rojo with the Cornell guys as it is. Anyway, it's just an idea. -
Club nationals are at the same location as Div3 XC nationals 2006 in Ohio. Registration ends in early December. This could be done and I bet letsrun.com could challenge and defeat the second tier teams in it's first year without too much trouble.

Not really. The Hansons group was around for quite a while before they got any outside sponsorship. And that didn't happen until they demonstrated an ability to produce national-level results AND also an ability to produce national-level publicity outside the competitive running community.
