how long a break do you take between xc and track?
10 days - 2 weeks of nothing
another week of swimming/biking
run 3-4 days next week
Then, I transition back into real running.
So, I take ~ 3 weeks off, and maybe more. I need it mentally. If I ran one or two of those weeks it would just burn me out.
I recommend 2 weeks to my athletes.
our coach has us take anywhere from 2-4 weeks off after the season depending on our situation. My break turned into about 5 weeks, however, because of a minor injury.
See I don't get this. If you take 4 weeks off how the heck are do you accomplish any base building during the winter? I mean, if you have 4 weeks off won't it take at least another 4 just to get back to 80 mpw (or whatever you do over the summer)? And by then it's mid-January, and you have to start doing indoor track workouts. So basically there's no time to just train and get stronger.
Everyone always tells me I'm slow because I don't run enough miles. It's not because I'm lazy, it's just because I don't understand when I'm supposed to be doing them.
