you should be 125, fatty.
It depends on a lot of things, but I think the concensus would be that you are a little bit heavy for ideal 3 mile or 5k running. That being said, you have to find your own sweet spot and let your body set its best weight for competition. You can't starve but you shouldn't be eating irresponsibly, either.
dont worry about it, if your happy where your at, good. Im 5 foot 7 and 155, just got testsed and have a low body fat. Yeah, maybe being alittle lighter would be beneficial, but if you feel/run find, and are happy with how you look. dont worrk about it

haha...you're joking, right?
i know im a little overweight, but most of it is muscle tissue. i lifted a lot of weights, this past year. so im guessing i have more muscle mass in my body. im not denying the fact that i am fat.
You're in high school, just get out and run. Unless you're over 200 lbs or something, you shouldn't be so worried about cutting weight this point in your physical development.
If you're getting out and running, your weight will take care of itself.
I am 5'8, weigh 127 pounds and could kick your ass at any distance of running, for I am FAST, STRONG, AND RELENTLESS.
And we're all really impressed perfectrunner. Sigh.
you certainly aren't fat. if you look at the height/weight ratio for most elite US distance runners, you are right on the high end of normal--for a self-selected, elite group of skinny people.
most elite US distance runners have a BMI between 19 and 21.5 (based on numbers i found on the USATF website). your BMI is 21.5 on the nose. don't sweat it.
if you're ethiopian, then yeah, you're fat.
I am 5'8" 125 an bet i could be perfectrunner.
well, that's pretty much my weight but i don't think i could beat a random runner over 3 miles. it's not all about that!
below a 19.0 BMI for a distance runner is ideal.
last thing a high schooler needs, unless actually fat, and 5'10" 150 is not fat at all, is to try to lose weight. when you're still growing, or would if you ate enough, that is no time to starve the body. but the weight work, if adding significant muscle, is not going to help your distance running.
Weight lifters actually bulk up during the winter then cut during the spring. Having a little extra weight only allows further muscle development. where a skinnier individual is going to plateau
I thought this was going to be a thread on Jessica Biel or some equally hottie hot hot.
And, if anyone's interested, check out this month's Outside magazine article on Julia Mancuso. I know who my new favorite skier is!
Unless you are really seroius about improving your times and running for a long time, don't try to look like a distance runner. Most chicks find them way too skinny.
6 foot, 150 would be ok. 5'10 you would want to be a bit closer to 140. Again there's no set standard on what makes someone good but the more muscle you have the more weight you have to carry around.
Weight and BMI mean nothing. Just keep the body fat under 10%. Get it done either by underwater weighing, 7 site skin fold, or dexa. With body fat you're going to reach a point where you really can't get any lower without restricting calories...and a runner SHOULD NEVER restrict calorie intake while training hard. Some people, due to genetics, will naturally settle at a very low body fat (3-6%), while others will naturally settle at somewhat higher (6-10%). You are what you are. Just make the best out of what you're given.
