I heard that there are some pretty good running trails in Ashville, North Carolina. I was wondering if anyone had any info about them...are they scenic, hilly, well kept...etc? Does the applaciachian trail run through there?

Asheville has many trails. There are over 100 miles worth of trails in the NC Arboretum which is also part of the Pisgah National Forest. There are trails that take you to Mount Mitchell as well as the Mountain to Sea Trail. You cant go wrong running in A-town.
Boone has higher elevation, but I would rather have more options as in Asheville and the surrounding area.
What's the snake situation in that area? How likely to see one? What kinds?
Really nice, mostly flat trails at the Biltmore, but you need to pay a fee to get on the grounds.
There are other threads about this -- do a search (but spell the name correctly, Asheville, with two e's).

snakes are hiding this time of year. not warm enough for them to be out and active
when it's warm, you might see an occasional copperhead or rattler, but mostly harmless ones
Only timber rattlers and copperheads to worry about. The rest are not dangerous.
I run at bent creek every day and only saw 6 or 7 snakes this past summer. Yeah you can keep it flat in Bent-Creek, but most of the runs in there involve moderate rolling hills or long climbs. A truly great place to train

check out the trails from the hard times trail head near the arboretum. plenty to choose from for either single track or forest service roads. stop by jus' running in north asheville on merrimon near unca or there's a new running store in south asheville i think in the turtle creek shopping center. either could point you in the right direction.
Tons of trails in Asheville....drop by one of the local shops to get suggestions...some are easy to get lost on. Black Dome/Foot Rx/Jus Running/Diamond Brand
watch your back in ashville.
American men regularly now run sub 13 5k and sun 27 10k but marathons stuck at 2:07. What gives?
