Any word out on the UK Ekiden teams???

5km Nick McCormick
5km Emily Pidgeon
5km Kate Reed
7.2km Sophie Morris

radcliffe, yamaouchi and farah would obviously make it stronger but otherwise not far off the best we have to offer
why has overall not been picked, he seems to have been overlooked. get overall in there!! he has beat jon brown this year!
supsect overall will be running euro xc trial which means he can't do Ekiden.
That is a great mens team on paper but with some surprises. Mccormick hasn't been out this year but he must be flying or they wouldn't have picked him and Jon Brown is still massive on 10k if fit and ready to race.
Pidgeon is the odd one on the women's team
What was the point of having trials - i.e. chichester and the national relays and then picking 2 guys who are out of form and didnt do either. Same old UKA - JOBS FOR THE BOYS.
Chiba Choices Announcement
24 October 2007
A combination of youthful talent and Olympic experience will fill the Norwich Union Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for the Chiba Ekiden next month.
Olympic marathon fourth placer Jon Brown (Sheffield) and Nick McCormick (Morpeth) will compete over 10km and 5km stages respectively, whilst Chris Davies (Telford), who clocked the fastest stage at the National Road Relays, will take the remaining 10km slot.
Mo Farah (Newham and Essex Beagles) will not compete following a groin strain that has prevented him returning to training as quickly as hoped after his end of season break. Consequently he has reluctantly withdrawn from the Ekiden team to ensure he is in the best possible shape for the forthcoming cross-country season.
Sophie Morris (Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow) who clocked the second fastest stage at the National Road Relays behind Steph Twell, will race over the 7.2km stage, joining the pre-selected Kate Reed (Bristol and West) and Emily Pidgeon (Gloucester AC) who will each run 5km stages.
Spencer Barden, UK Athletics Senior Coordinator for Endurance said:
“The Chiba Ekiden has always been a highly competitive race, but this year’s new mixed team format will be extremely challenging for the team.
“It is a real boost to the Norwich Union GB & NI team that Jon Brown and Nick McCormick have made themselves available, and it is great to see Chris Davies returning to form after recent injuries.
“Sophie Morris is deserving of her place after an excellent run in Sutton Park and alongside Kate and Emily will ensure the women’s half of the team keep the pressure up on the men.”
The travelling reserves for the trip to Japan who will compete in a 5000m track race are Rachel Townend (Winchester) and Dave Webb (Leeds)

UKA are gay.
UKA are in love with Jon Brown even though he's done sod all for ages.
There was no trial for the ekidens. It was stated that certain races would be taken into account but would not be actual trials. Re. selections, its worth knowing that Chiba Ekiden is an Invitation event. The organisors put pressure on each team to bring along their best athletes in the interests of raising the profile of the race. They probably tell UKA who they want to run if possible (Olympic, world champ representatives etc). If UKA don't send a team with a few 'names'or one that doesn't perform then it jeopardises our invite for the following year. Then nobody gets selected!
the funding of McCormick has to be justified some way, so maybe UKA are getting him to race for GB whenever they can? he didn't have his best summer but there are few better brits over 5km if he's on his game
I say we should all boycott UKA events for 24hours starting now. Dont run for uka until 13:44pm tommorow afternoon if you want to show your support. Cheers.
HONK IF YOU BONK
Anyone been on the Belgrave Harriers website recently - great picture of the 'relay boys on the tiles' after their successes at the national 6 stage. What a bunch of gays. Look at sharpy pissed as a newt!
Which is why they will never be as good as McCormick or Brown!
Who are the two guys who are out of form?
Please tell me when Jon Brown has worn a GB vest and run poorly. I can't think of an occasion.
I guess we would be on the raz with the win bonus they normally get for winning the National relays. Don`t think the Jones boy is gay though as he been living with the same sheep for a while now....although come to think of it the thing has got horns!
On that basis perhaps Seb Coe and Steve Ovett should be in the team!
poor response - Jon Brown has, to my knowledge, pretty much always run well in a GB vest. He wouldn't take it if he didnt feel he could do the job - Coe & Ovett arent putting themselves forward, Brown is so i think with his record he is entitled to the spot. I can't think of too many people who would be any better anyway.
Coe and Ovett. Probably.
Even poorer response...."to my knowledge"......"pretty much"....."can`t think". Any more waffles? He has no form....he doesn`t even live in the UK.
