Hello all,
This is my first post here, and from what I've read on the forum this seems to be a good community of people who are willing to help others out. I hope that proves the case for me. Here's my problem:
I'm a male college XC runner who's gained about 10 lbs (most of it not wanted) since the beginning of the season.
Over the summer I was a bit overweight (137 as opposed to my racing weight of about 126- *note I'm not really that concerned with weight, but rather with body fat %-the weight (and the mirror) reflected that). Trying to cut fat as efficeintly as possible I tried a high protein diet. I did that for about 6 weeks and cut down to a good low body fat % and felt light and quick. Happy I went into XC camp in good shape ready to go. I also threw my high protein diet out the window as I knew it wouldn't support the rigors of intense training. I pretty much ate what I wanted to, though I tried not to binge on anything and made sure to get plenty of carbs to replace muscles glycogen.
Well, to my horror, over the past month I've put all the fat back on plus a little extra. Now I've got less than 8 weeks to go before the end of the season and I feel heavy.
My training has been going well (we're at around 60-65 mi/week and pretty intense) and I can feel myself getting stronger and faster in the legs, however the mirror and the way I feel when I run tells me I've put a lot of unnecessary fat back on me. The rebound from going off the high protein diet was brutal.
So my question is: Does anyone know of I way I can lose the excess fat without having to diet excessively or cut back on the intensity of my training? I don't want to break my body down and risk injury, but I also want to be as fast as possible by the end of the season (which means no excess baggage). Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
