Do you guys think that this is possible?
Do you guys think that this is possible?
World or American? If World, I don't mean to be pessimistic, but... you must be smokin' some good stuff.
If American... unlikely. It's hard to put all the pieces together for your best marathon on a first attempt, but it's a lot more likely than breaking the world record.
Isn't the AR the WR also?
UMMMM sorry there but i do believe the World Record IS the American Record, you know Khalid bein American and all
Just a thought
oh and neither of em will break it, Culpeper won't even be top American, yet again leave taht to Khalid
do you mean record for a debut performance or just plain old record? both seem insanely unlikely.
Show me a picture of old Khalid in a Boy Scout or little league uniform and I'll start calling his record the American record. Until then, great runner with all the right in the world to live and prosper here but, in my mind, not, the American record holder-flame away my friends.
Didn't realize you had to be a Boy Scout to be an American. Guess I'd better go apply for a Green Card.
Of course if you meant the debut record, you have to look no further than Geb's London race, so no, I don't think in any way what you are suggesting, no matter what you meant is possible.
it matters not what YOU think. the FACT is that he's both the AR and WR holder.
hey, slick, maybe you should go. though i do see the point you are making, i think we should be honored that a runner such as kk represents our country.
I would be really surprised if either one goes under 2:12, although I wish them the best of luck just the same.
Monty
Whoa... ooops (duh)... my mistake, and I stand corrected. KK had it before being an American, and now, yes, he re-established it as an American and World record. Again, my bad. I was not trying to make a statement... simply an oversight on my part.
well if khalid doesnt count, then neither does meb. so narrow the question to just culpepper. meb and khalid lived in american before they were big. just cause one went to high school in the us doesnt make him more african or american than someone who came over in his 20s.
Meb spent his formative years (high school) in the United States, he grew up here. Khannouchi didn't.
JEH,
Glad to see that was a mistake and not a statement brother. You had me wondering for a minute there.
What the hell are formative years?

Not gonna happin'
Keflezighi can't set any kind of record, b/c the NYC Marathon course is not record-eligible. Too far between start and finish. Boston Marathon too (for those who wonder why Pat Peterson, Jerry Lawson, and David Morris held the AR although Bill Rodgers had run 2:09:28).
Not sure what the American debut record is. Khannouchi debuted as a Moroccan. Salazar's 1980 NYC Marathon debut doesn't count. Rudy Chapa?
Looks like we will hace to start keeping track of the NBAR (Native Born American Record) so we can distinguish the which record holders were boyscouts.
Why the animosity towards KK? What did he do wrong? He worked his ass off and has been training in the US for years. He hasn't done anything wrong, so I don't understand why people don't accept him as an American. His hard work and rise to greatness is what America is all about. People, there is a reason its called the Melting Pot. The only reason I can think of why you would not accept him is fear. Scared that you can't be that good, or jealous of his ability. Maybe I'm way off base with that, but enlighten me as to why you don't like the guy.
