i'd recommend it. plastic bottomed spikes on bearcage doesn't work out very well. it is big rock gravel and with my track kenns a couple weeks ago i had a lot of slippage trying to go up it.
Always wear spikes at FP.
What college races are held at Franklin Park, besides championship ones?
Flats are fine unless the course is wet. Your comfort = confidence.
College races include the New England Championships, as well as races hosted by BC, BU and probably others. Try coolrunning or go to the schools' website.
I've run that course half a dozen times. It was kind of muddy 5 out of 6 of those runs. Go with spikes, unless you think sliding your way through XC will help you.

At FP the spike-wearing runner will always have the advantage over the one wearing flats.
I've run there twice, and wore spikes once and flats once. When I wore spikes, it was wet, and muddy, flats would have been a disaster. It was dry when I wore flats and they worked great. If it's dry, you shouldn't have a problem with flats.

Flats are not "a problem", but spikes will make you faster. No doubt. EOT.
