Looks like he got his doors blown out at Dellinger Invite. Welcome to the big leagues kid. (granted, 24:27 is a good time for a freshman). It's a shock to everyone to go from 5k to 8k fo sure.

Not like he was an all-time great in cross anyhow. On the track, is where he really excelled last year with 8:41y/4:03y. What was he 6'th/7'th at Nationals for XC?

8th
"Welcome to the big leagues kid."
Yeah, lets blast one of the most talented Runners to come out of HS ever (big statement I know but, 8:41 is 8:41 and the numbers don't lie) after he has a pretty decent run for a freshman IN HIS FIRST RACE in college. By this time next year this kid could be top 5 at NCs and have and AA award to his name from track. I would be willing to bet that he had a long break this summer after his amazing spring and is just now getting going as far as training goes. That would make his 24:27 pretty damn good. Vin is a genius and I'm sure he's been holding him back for the big meets later this season.

Well, he went from being out there in front to being just one more star in a stable of stars. Something has to break. Only one UO runner can finish first for the team. Best to go to a school in a strong conference that DOES NOT have a super-runner on the team already. Can you imagine how tough it is to work out every day in a situation like that?
Holy Hell Gerry how do all those Kenyans and Ethiopians do it. If Matt Centro has inherited any of his dad's balls he'll be just fine training with a group of studs. It sure didn't hurt your Daddy Pre did it?
am i the only one to think that 24:27 as freshman, no matter how fast you are in high school is damn impressive considering the lifestyle changes you have to deal with??

Unless you are that supper runner...
You're not the only one. I think that time is impressive for anyone.

I would imagine it is pretty awesome. Having someone to run with helps immensely. Having a whole team of that?
A good team will make every member of that team better than they would be on their own. Running, being an individual sport in the end, does have its share of exceptions, but I would imagine that this applies to cross country as well.
not to take away from little centro, cause i think he has a great amount of potential and am looking forward to his progress in college, but that course is notoriously short. I would take any time from that course with a grain of salt.

What course are you talking about? That was the first time they used it as far as I know.
Did they change the course from last year?
I remember last year it was very apparent it was short and if i remember correctly from looking at splits from this years as well the last split didn't quite add up...
Completely new course. Last year's was in Alton Baker Park, this year's was on Springfield golf course.
well apparently they did change the course from last year. It seems it was still short though, judging by other people's posts on the other thread. I'm just going off of information from here:http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=2143852&page=1

It's cross country, not a road race. AND, the leaders were 14:40 at 5k, 17:42 at 6k and 20:50 at 7k. Either the splits were off or the course is short of 8k. Withrow is good, but a 2:20 last 1k seems a little unrealistic.
I was just going off of other people's information, so it could be wrong. Anyways, this is getting off topic and I digress..
