Good going From martin, could be a big star at the distance
Good going From martin, could be a big star at the distance
A 63 is a 63 is a 63 but it's not that impressive for a 28:18 10k runner.
It's actually right on par with that kind of performance.
the course isn't flat either. it's actually quite challenging.
I would agree, right on par for his ability, especially in his debut on a difficult course, leading up to 8M on CR pace. Absolutely brilliant run from Fagan. The future looks bright.
1:02:02 new course record. Fagan led until mile 8's 4:26.
Good debut.
i was wondering what he was doing at franklin park on saturday, nice run
What is the Irish selection process for the Marathon? B Standard Qualifiers or better and are chosen?
I know I read Martin is making his debut at Houston. Would think even if he was 2:14 or so he'd get on. Is there any good (sub 2:15) Irish marathoners right now? Any chance Mark Carroll ever gives it a whirl again?
i really can't get excited about a 63 minute half when someone just ran faster than that for twice the distance
SOMEONE RAN A SUB 1:03 MARATHON??

until you go out and try running a 63 min. half.
then you'll have some respect.
Yes its "only" a 1:03, but the BAA half is a really challenging course. I can't give you any kind of conversion, but there is a really large/steep hill around mile 7 and the rest of the course rolls until around mile 12. Its actually a really impressive debut.
"SOMEONE RAN A SUB 1:03 MARATHON??"
is this bad math or a troll? both are a stupid outcome
Fagan runs a 2:03 on a difficult course and "slow American" can't get excited. He's a hell of a track fan.
I suppose when he watches someone get a game winning double his response is. "I can't get excited when I've seen a a walkoff home run."
A 63 half marathon is a great debut. But compare it to Ryan Hall running 59 and it is just okay. It equates to maybe a 2:12 to 2:14 marathon. If it were a Kenyan running that kind of time for a debut, no one would even talk about it. It is just that it is a white guy.
Providence ran at new englands on saturday and he is probably helping out with the team or cheering. I agree that the course is tough, i have run over that course many times.
I would put fagan at a 2.11 - 2.12 at Houston, no joke. he has been training at altitude and after a few more months he'll be ready to roll on a fast course. Just wait and see.
Is the BAA course really that tough? I ran it last year and while I certainly didn't think it was easy, I didn't think it was insanely challenging. Probably a 6 or 7 out of 10 for difficulty. Maybe I'm just used to the New England hills...
Around the Cape 25k in Cape Ann is WAY tougher.
Martin's new coach, Greg McMillan, talks about Martin's race and his training leading up to it on his team's website:

Seems like this wasn't a race they were pointing toward but were doing it as a fitness check. Good start to his post-collegiate career if you ask me.

yea dont forget the guy just started racing the half. Wonder how he likes flagstaff...
