To LYSS: See pg 3 of posts where MarathonMind quoted my post from the Chi. Trib. My cardiologist is not in favor of me running marathons, but said if I do, I need to be extremely careful about dehydration. He told me this 2 weeks before the marathon, before we knew how horrible the weather would be, so I didn't get more of an explanation. But he told me if I got dehydrated, I could literally drop dead on the course, and I suspect this is unfortunately what happened to Chad Schieber. So now I wonder if he, or other marathoners with MVP, had been specifically warned about dehydration.
So I knew race day the weather was especially dangerous for me (with "moderate to severe" MVP), so I had to force myself to stop and walk much of the 2nd half, and keep hydrated, instead of pushing it, as a normal marathoner does.
Any marathoner with MVP should get it checked, and be extra careful.
