Solo gets the axe after being a spoiled brat and trashing her teammate because she didn't get to play when she wanted at the FIFA women's worldcup.

how to ruthlessly compete. Solo would have won the game for the US, Scurry, a has been, lost it. So now they are playing for third. End of story.
She shouldn't have mentioned Scurry's performance, but that coach is a f***ing idiot. Scurry is old, hadn't played a minute and he puts her in goal against the best team in the world? She should have only ever gotten in net if Solo had gotten injured...wait, change that. Scurry should have ever put put in if Solo dropped dead.
so scurry didn't play goal keeper in any of the other world cup games this summer except for the last one? and in the meantime, how many goals did solo let get by her?
You know, I'm all for team unity and all that, but these fools need to remember that they are not there to love each other. They are there (on OUR dime) to win. I don't care how much they dislike their goalie, the fact is that she clearly got it done and Scurry clearly did not. But because they got their feelings all hurt, they dismiss her from the team.
Somebody on that team needs to remember who is footing the bills for this.

read the first line in the article, dipshit.
The first line says "unbeaten"...it does mention the number of goals Solo allowed. Do not so quickly resort to calling people names, although I realize that is a tradition on here.
She hadn't let in a goal for several games, oodles and oodles of minutes. She was totally in the zone.
I liked that she said it because I always get a rush when people stand up to authority. I wouldn't have even backed down, like Solo did later. Scurry should have refused to play before the Brazil game and stood up for Solo's excellent play so far this season.
That's pathetic. None of the comments Solo made were a big deal at all. If you don't have the attitude that Solo displayed in her comments, you ain't getting it done at that level to begin with. They should have given her a raise but instead they fired her. Stupid.
So much for dancing with the one you brought. This would be like pulling a young starting QB in the playoffs for an aging veteran. Shame she got the boot from her teammates.

Buffalo Bills. Frank Reich. Replaces Jim Kelly and engineers the greatest comeback in playoff history. Who starts the superbowl? Jim Kelly. Outcome? Bills lose
Also dont forget Kyle Orton
Really? So if Tom Brady or Steve Nash or A-Rod were to say the same thing on TV if they got benched by their coach in similar circumstances, you'd have no problem with it?
wtf. I thought it said Hans Solo and was wondering what happened to Harrison Ford. Carry on.
Why in the world would you bench your GOAL KEEPER who was undefeated so far in the world cup? It's not like she let up some cheap goals along the way and was shaky in net. She let up two goals vs Korea then shut out Sweden , Nigeria and England. How can you pull someone who is performing? This made no sense at all.
this is really about him getting a peak at her panties at practice and then being shot down at night in the training room.

To be fair, Kelly played every game that season till the playoffs when he got knocked out in the Oilers game. It's not the same situation. Scurry didn't get injured part way through the world cup and lose her job. She lost the job long before the World Cup started because Solo was the better goalie. Also, Kelly was a PRO BOWLER that year. Scurry hasn't been one of the best in the world for many years, while many consider Solo to be one of, if not the best goalie in the world right now. Needless to say, Reich wasn't considered anything more than a backup. Every coach on earth would play their star player (Kelly is a freaking first ballot hall of famer for goodness sake) over a guy that was a backup for a reason, even if he had an amazing half of football. Really, the only similarity is that they both involve two players at one position.
Although she comes across as a bitch (especially the "2004" part), the fact is, Scurry DID lose the game. 1-0 maybe, but 4-0?
As for this:
"I am not proud or happy the way things have come out. Although I stand strong in everything I said, the true disheartening moment for me was realizing it could look as though I was taking a direct shot at my own teamate. I would never throw such a low blow. Never. Many (sic) of this goes way beyond anyone's understanding, and is simply hard to justify. In my eyes there is no justification to put down a teamate. That is not what i (sic) was doing. I am confidant (sic) in knowing that i (sic) would have made a major difference on the field. I have to believe that. I have to believe that I should have been on the field or why am I a professional trying to be the very best? I also have agreed to disagree with our head coach and I stand firm in my beliefs that it was the wrong decision. However, to put down a teamate was never, ever my intent. I only wanted to speak of my own abilities yet also recognize that the past is the past. Things were taken out of context, or analyzed differently from my true meaning of my own words. For that I am sorry."
Anyone feel as I do that that wasn't an apology?
If this were the NFL or something, wouldn't she have just been fined?

ITA. I think the whole thing is ugly, but for her teammates to have a private meeting and decide she can't play with them anymore (was the coach invited to that meeting? Who has the authority here??), strikes me as a bunch of junior high girls getting together and saying, "We're not gonna play with Hope anymore. She's being meeeeeeean." Ugh, whole situation makes my stomach turn.
