i would say that the 40yd time has the most % determination in your 100 speed. by the time you get to the 400m distance, too many other factors come into play for the 40yd time to have determination dominance.
40 time is a measure of explosiveness like vertical leap. it probably plays a big rold in 100 time but at longer distances i doubt it is that important. there are football players running 4.5's that weigh 200-250. what do you think thier 400 times are. in high school i ran a 4.5 on grass but didnt run track or xc and could not have competed with good runners at my fitness level. the speed i had came from lifting weights.
