I'm calling Portland, Wisconsin, Oregon, in order. Portland's arguably got the best top-3 in the nation, and with Rupp sitting (right?) and Schumacher's history of not running a complete squad early in the season it's up in the air with those three. Their top-3 are as good as anyone's, Wisco and Oregon included. With Rupp out of the picture and question marks surrounding Wisco's lineup, the stage is set for someone (Portland, UTEP, Alabama, UCLA) to step up and snag the W. Assuming everyone's healthy of course, which is always a big assumption.
Expect Bor from Alabama and a couple of the UTEP boys to be up there as well. Would be cool to see Harding step up with a top-5 finish as well, a shame Mineau is out for the season. Mercado, Klotz, Kilburg, 5000m AA from UCLA who's name I'm forgetting right all have strong cases for top-10 finishes as well. And whoever Wisco throws out (hopefully we'll see a full force squad)
New Mexico's Jeremy Johnson was an All-American in the 10,000 last year. He makes his season debut at the Dellinger Invitational, and should challenge for a top 5 finish.
Does Portland have that good of a top 3? I know they are good but best in the country. I would have to say that UTEP may have one of the best top 3 in the country. Maybe NAU has the best top 3 or 4. Oregon has the most depth through 10. Colorado should have a very good top 3. Iona (did they lose anyone?) should have one of the best top 3.

Plus, they are one of the deepest teams in the country with plenty of 14:20-30 4k guys to fill in 4-7 spots.

If that is true then Portland should be good. Track and xc ARE different but those times indicate they should be a very strong team!
This is Oregon's home invitational, so I am willing to bet that they load up their top squad (minus Rupp), and will win the race. Portland will get second off of their solid top three and nice depth, while Wisco gets third only running three or four of their top seven runners (Withrow, Eagon and Miller/Bethke).

That sounds about right to me, although I think a lot of people here are forgetting about UTEP. I could see it going Oregon, UTEP, Portland, Wisco, with 2-4 being in no particular order.
A lot of this depends on two things:
1. Different training philosophies mean some teams are going to be roaring to go, while others will probably be a little sluggish in their first race.
2. Who actually runs. Predicting Wisconsin to come in anywhere from 2nd-4th is obviously not a comment on how well they could do barring runners being held out.

Moore and Kinsella should both be at least in the discussion for top-10 finishes at nationals. Kilburg's 28:57 is solid as well, but I haven't seen as much out of him in XC as in track. Who does NAU have other than Lomong? UTEP is good for sure, looks like they're learning from last year and coming out to grab some at-large points. Iona lost their 6th guy I believe, could very well have the best top-3 in a country. Of course, CU Wisco and UO always in the discussion as well. What about Liberty? McDougal Chelanga... who's #3? Stanford perhaps?
I think it's more fair to say that Portland has the POTENTIAL to have one of the best top-3 in the country. As does UTEP, Iona, Oregon, etc. I'm curious to hear about the other guys NAU has though.

Liberty should be very good. They have two guys that are possible top 10 in Chelanga and McDougal. How good is the younger McDougal?
NAU has two Australian guys. I read it on dyestat last year. I also heard some talk that they both represented Australia at World Champs in Kenya. The one guy has run under 14 min and low 3:40's. They have a Swede named Bostrim that ran 24:00 or high 23's at Pre nats last year. They have Cardenas that has run near 24:00. They also have the hs 3200m champ from Cali - Avilla. I do not think NAU is going to Dellinger BUT someone spoke about Portland having one of the best 1-2-3 combos. I think NAU is certainly capable of staking claim to that if what I hear is true.
UTEP should be awesome if they only lost their number 6. They seem to lack depth so if there is an injury then they are in trouble.
CU has their two front studs as well as Medina, Tebo, Neumann and others. Look for them to be in the hunt at NCAA's again.
