10 x 400mL with 60 seconds recovery
The beer mile is a different breed of race. It's not enough to be an alcoholic and a good runner - success in the beer mile depends on one's ability to deal with an enormous volume of liquid while running. I would work on pounding a beer and then running a hard 400. Thus, a good session would be something like 3x Beer - 400m - Beer - 400m, with 5-10 minutes between the sets. If you do one session a week like this, in addition to "normal" training (50 - 70 mpw with 1-2 workouts), you'll be ready to go. I would like to hear the thoughts of others. Godspeed!
I absolutely agree with the last post. I've only run two, and not a seasoned veteran by any means, but I have run 6:20 and 6:10. Training isn't necessarily required, but I would suggest getting used to keeping a lot of beer down. That's the only problem: holding it down.

don't open in a 65 second first 400m.
you need to develop your beer02 max
Don't get out of breath when running. The beer won't go down as fast. Be brave and if you do puke remember to aim away from the body!
Ok, we just completed one a week ago in Tempe. Look, run your 400s with abandon. The recovery between is ample to go back out and run hard again... even breathing hard wasn't an issue.HOWEVER, the winner was not the strongest runner... it was the strongest drinker! He could down a can of beer in 15-20 seconds early on then settled into a comfy 30 second can. Never could make up the distance or time. There is NO training that can help. Believe me, we tried!!! TIP: dont' have the beer to cold or too warm. I'm serious. And be srue to follow the Kingston Kules.
it's really being able to hold the liquid. Do 3xtons of water the day of in order to stretch your stomach out, and eat lightly until after the beer mile.
the champ at our school last spring says he owes it to drinking lots of stouts, said the Natty ice was like water.
